I am familar with the area for the proposed Angus Place and Springvale longwall mining extensions and am deeply concerned about potential impacts on Carne Creek, and the Wolgan River, Marangaroo and Bunglebouri Creek headwaters. The extension will cause subsidence in large areas of the plateau, which will cause deep cracking and have a totally adverse impact on the acquifers, causing them to drop signficantly. This puts 73 nationally endangered swamps at risk of drying out and thus, apart from the devasting ecosystem damage will increase the potential for bushfires. Additionally, the effluent discharge will be a source of pollution for the Coxs River which is part of the Warragamba catchment. In this era when we need to focus on renewable sources of energy, there are no viable reasons for extending this mine. I register my objection and hope that mine, and many others influence the decision to cease extension plans.

Angus Place have a positive record for Mining in the Lithgow district for many years. Their coal is a major provider for the local power stations for local electricity generation. Angus place support a workforce of three hundred people. These employees and their families spend their money in the local area supporting the community.
Mining spans many generations in the town. Angus place has always been a major sponsor of many local schools, sporting teams and charities.
Without mining our community would suffer with many families having to relocate. This in turn would have a major impact on our smaller businesses, schools etc.. We need mining to keep our town afloat.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I submit that this project should be rejected for the following reasons:

- Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but protected in a state conservation area.

- The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

- Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.

- The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.

- The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.

- The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent, should it go ahead, must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

- If this project is not rejected, please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely,

When will the attacks on our Environment stop? Why do we risk wrecking the environment to gain a few dollars for a few very wealthy people? We don't actually need the coal !
In the area Centennial Angus Place Pty. Ltd. are proposing to mine, we have pristine creeks. We have unique and world recognised natural formations - Pagodas and hanging lakes. We have unique flora and fauna.
All of these will be endangered by the project. We've seen what this company's track record is with polluting creeks and streams, the ugly scars on one Newnes Plateau area to provide further infrastructure to support the mine operation.
The operations will risk cracking the underlying sandstone layers which support the lakes. The discharge from the mine, will more than likely pollute pristine water courses - this has already happened in their current operations. The dust and pollution will adversely affect those who live in the region, causing heath issues, as we've seen with the ColPac mines.

Why are we even considering this, or any proposal like it?

Coal mining has historically been beneficial to Lithgow and it's surrounding areas. The mines existence has provided many hundreds of jobs not only at the mine but within our community. Centennial coal has made various donations to many local organisations including Lithgow hospital and many of our local schools and sporting clubs. In the last hundred years of mining this region the environmental impact has been very minimal and well controlled with our beautiful flora and fauna still being visited and oared by visitor from all over Australia.
Please approve this application so Lithgow can exist as a functional community.

I object to the Angus Place Mine Expansion Project because of the serious threat it poses to some of the desired features of the proposed Gardens of Stone National Park expansion.

The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

The monetary return to Centennial is short term but its adverse impacts are permanent.
