The local coalmines Angus Place and Springvale employe over 700 people including staff.
Greatly benefit and support local community's around the area.
Big financial and economics benefits to the local community which is important for the growth and stability of Lithgow to grow into the future without these mines I can not see Lithgow moving forward.
With the closures of major companys around the central west think of the jobs that will be lost and add to the number of un- employment to the area.

The employment of these mines with local community's.
For Lithgow to move forward we need these mines for the growth, financial and economics for the local community.
To many jobs will be lost and add to the number of jobs the central west has already lost.

Angus Place has a good track record of mining in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment. This organisation also supports a local workforce of 300 employees and potentially 1500 flow on jobs.

It also donates considerable amounts to local schools, world vision children, underprivileged and disabled, care for the elderly, Big Morning Tea and the following foundations, Barry Rushworth/Laurie Bender Cancer Walk, Legacy Daffodil Day Camp Quality and Early Intervention Kids along with many others.

I find it very offensive that a local festival (Ironfest) was used as a political arena and equally offensive is the fact that vistor's to our area have signed a petition objecting to this project.

Imperious mining interests should never over ride community consent, water safety nor ruin the natural wonders of our country. How about looking at the damage, the reparations required and how about seeing this as a treasured area rather than an area of no consequence to destroy. I have walked in this area - it is as beautiful if not more so than the profitable katoomba area which promotes itself around the world, to good effect. This is a grab for cheap coal before prices tumble. Get real Australia.

SHAME ON YOU.

Stop these mining leases.

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

I oppose the Angus Place Mine Extension for the following reasons:
- Longwall mining will drastically damage important terrestrial and stream environments, rock pagodas, cliffs and nationally endangered swamps in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region, which should instead be protected in a state conservation area.
- Centennial Coal must not be allowed to replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau.
- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state and its waters, that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, are of the highest standard. It would be a tragedy if this creek were poisoned or suffered reduced flows due to destructive mining practices.

The Gardens of Stone region is a naturally fragile region, with an abundance of distinctive rock formations and upland swamps. Centennial Coal has shown disregard for the environment in which it woks, having been fined $1.45 million in reparations for damage to upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau. This mine extension will damage remaining swamps and potentially pollute the otherwise pristine Carne Creek. Rather than subjected to such destructive activities, this unique area should be placed within a state conservation area or appended to one of the neighbouring national parks (Gardens of Stone, Wollemi or Blue Mountains National Parks) with comprehensive protection for the park on both terrestrial and subterranean levels.

Angus Place will continue to support a local workforce of up to 300 employees and also provides coal for local electricity generation.

I have been employed in the local coal mining industry for 35 years with family members also currently employed in the local coal industry as well.

My family resides in the local area and as such our salaries are spent in local businesses.

Deductions from weekly wages in Lodge Fees are donated to charities including Camp Quality, Legacy, equipment for local public and community hospitals, school fund raisers, underprivileged and disabled members of the community, and the elderly to name a few.

Angus Place has a good track record of mining in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment.

My husband has been employed at Angus Place for 35years.
Living in the local area we have a long family history of being employed in the coal mining industry.

Angus Place plays a major part in supplying coal for the local electricity generation and will continue to support a local workforce of up to 300 employees.

The mine has an impressive track record in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment.

We spend our money locally and support local businesses. Our families have been involved in various sporting and community activities all made possible by having local employment.

Local Coal Miners generously donate through weekly wage deductions to many local charities and Centennial Coal is also a major sponsor of many local sporting events and Charity Days where proceeds are donated back to the community. Local schools, hospitals, the elderly, and Cancer groups to name a few are recipients of these donations.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
Yours sincerely,

Thank you

Quarry Mining is a supplier of drilling consumables for roof support to underground coal mines throughout Australia's east coast. This submission shows our support of both the Angus Place and Springvale coal mine expansion projects. Quarry Mining has a long history with Centennial Coal and have been supplying their mines since the late 1980's. Quarry Mining hold in high regard our relationship with Centennial Coal and the value it places on ensuring loyalty to local businesses, in particular who manufacture high quality products in Australia. Both their support of the Australian manufacturing industry and their commitment to a high standard of product demonstrates their pledge to responsible business practices. Centennial involves Quarry Mining in extensive R and D projects to ensure products are not only fit for purpose but are of the highest quality safety standards, allow for the best usability possible and are achieving efficiencies in terms of time and cost savings across the group.
The longevity of coal mines in Australia is critical to our economy. To have a company like Centennial who are dedicated to world class environmental and sustainability standards operating these mines is a supreme advantage. Centennial operations create safe jobs in unavoidably hazardous conditions for local people not only through direct employment but also through deliberate efforts to involve local suppliers of high quality products and services of the many and varied products and services that are necessary to operate a coal mine. The jobs that result indirectly allow local business not only to exist, but to grow and improve and continue to ensure Australia as a world class economy.
For Quarry Mining alone, Centennial supports the equivalent of approximately 8 full time employees with an average monthly spend of $341,000. To further demonstrate the strength of the relationship and the synergies of the companies, Quarry Mining and Centennial Coal together support various community initiatives. In particular that of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service whereby Quarry Mining provides a drill bit (the Angel Bit) used in high volumes to all underground mines that contributes approximately $25,000 per year back to the helicopter service. Centennial Coal's support of this product makes that ongoing donation achievable.

All mines in the lithgow district provide an invaluable source of economic support for the surrounding region. They provide jobs to hard working Australians and their families as well as supporting companies and suppliers.

The coal industry has a long history in this area and is well supported by the community. Businesses such as Centennial Coal also provide funding and support to local community and sport groups, improving the livelihood of even those who do not work directly for the mine operation.

Most importantly, for as long as I have been in the district, Centennial Coal has maintained an excellent environmental record in the region, allowing me to continue enjoying the surrounding native bushland that I enjoy so much.

I strongly object to Coalpacs plant to open cut Coal Mine in Ben Bullen State Forest & Centennial Coals proposed new extensions to its Angus Place & Springvale longwall mines located under the centre of Newnes Plateau in the Gardens of Stone region.

It is aproven fact that such mining activities irreversably damage these unique fragile environments. The overwhwelming majority of people strongly object to the destruction of our natural environments that protect our Flora & Fauna that also provide clean water, air, a carbon sink, link to our cultural heritage & tourist attraction.
