This is a positive submission in support of Angus Place East. The Lithgow region depends heavily on the ongoing operation of Angus Place Colliery well into the future. The employees are almost all local Lithgow people and these people ( 300 approx. ) play a major role in supporting the local community. For example they support many local charities, sports and businesses.
The need for coal is also a necessity as we all know their is no other means of power generation in Australia to meet the demand. Angus Place is also NOT an environmental eyesore as most people wouldn't know it even exists. The mine has had minimal impact on the environment and very few if any complaints about it's operation.
Therefor, I think for Lithgow to stay viable and not become a ghost town it is important that Angus Place East goes ahead.

-Important swamps, pagodas, and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall coal mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
-The Springvale and the adjoining Angus Place mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
-Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
-The sandstone rock supporting the 41 nationally endangered swamps, including the 11 shrub swamps affected by the proposal must not be fractured.
-The proposed discharge of up to 43.8megalitres/day eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated by reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
-The scenic western edge of the Newnes Plateau must be protected from further scarring by new roads, pipeline and electricity easements.
-Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
-Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne and Bungleboori Creeks, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps must not be damaged

I would like to support this submission on the grounds that we need this employment in our district to support our community and the continued operation of Mt Piper power station which also provides a large employment base for our district. For this developement not to proceed would have dire consequences for our local community. The mine plan has been carefully constructed as to not impact on swamps and water courses and I see no reason not support it.

I support the expansion of Angus Place as it provides security for my young and growing family, my partner being employed at Angus this expansion with provide for not only our familie but other local families for years to come, meaning a long life in the place we have chosen to call home. If these expansion are not put in place it may mean leaving the area.
It also provides security in my job as I work for a small manufacturing/engineering company in the local area, which will only survive though ongoing work/support from the local coal mines.

Angus Place Colliery is an important employer to our Local area. Not only does it have a local workforce of over 290 people it supports local business's, sporting and community groups. The local community would suffer greatly if Angus Place Colliery, or any of the local Coal Mines, had to close in the area.
Angus Place has a great track record of mining with minimal impact to the environment and people that live here.
It is imperative that Angus Place continues to operate for the interest of Lithgow and surrounding towns.

Angus Place employs approximately 300 people with the majority living within the Lithgow area. These employees support local businesses and are involved in many local sporting and community organisations.

Angus Place has a good track record of mining in our local area with minimal impacts to the people that live here and the local environment.

Centennial Coal provides various levels of sponsorship to local public and community hospitals, local schools, underprivileged and disabled members of the community and three local aged care faciltiies. The company is a good corporate citizen and contributes a great deal to the local community.

Personally, I have a number of friends and family who will be impacted by this decision. Not just as employees of Angus Place, but other local businesses such as couriers, contract cleaners, hire company's, local cafe's and restaurants etc.

This is a small town that supports local coal mining and believes it can play a big part in supplying coal for local electricity generation.

I am writing in favour of the proposal as it is my belief that if the extension does not get approval, then it will mean major job losses at the coal operation. this would have a serious knock on effect of unemployment in the local area at a time when we are already looking at the loss of 300 jobs at the Wallerawang power station. To lose any more jobs would be disastrous not only for the township of Lithgow but also for the surrounding areas. It should also be noted that the coal mining industry in Lithgow gives back to its community in a big way to local charities and families in need. I have had the privilege in taking part in the Charity Golf Day which this year alone raised $40,000 all of which has been distributed to local charities.
The Angus Place CFMEU Lodge has also helped local families whom may have found themselves in tough times due to a serious illness, the assistance is given in the form of fuel vouchers or price of accomodation when staying near the hospitals. Again if the extension doesn't get the approval then it means loss of jobs which laeds to people leaving the local area and families losing this type of funding.
Angus Place Colliery is an organisation which takes its environmental needs very seriously and has self regulated these needs to a very high standard.

I believe this extension should be approved due the operator's long term commitment to the local communities, the state of NSW and the Australian economy. Angus Place Colliery has provided direct employment and indirect employment for a sustained period of time. Angus Place colliery has a good track record of safety and environmentally sustainability. The operator has always supported local organisations and charities. The workforce at Angus Place Colliery has a strong presence within the local and surrounding communities. To not approve this extension will have a devastating effect on the local communities, the state of NSW and to the national economy. A non approval would also display a unjustified move away from supporting coal mining by the NSW Government.

Newcom / Angus Place Colliery has been a invaluable contributor to our community for over 60 years.
Amoung other things, providing jobs for the district, electricity for the state and supporting our local community.
No matter what environmental groups say, being an underground mine, there is very little environmental impact evident.

Angus Place employs over 300 people and is a vital part of the Lithgow economy both directly and indirectly.
Employee's private contribuations from their wages are donated to Private and Public Hospitals for Equipment, Local Schools, World Vision, Under Privledged and Disabled Members of the Community, the Elderly of Tandarra, Cooinda and Three Tree Lodge, Early Intervention Children, Camp Quality, Legacy, Daffadil Day, Big Morning Tea and the Barry Rushworth / Laurie Bender Cancer Walk.
The biggest donation with help from the Company and Sister Mines, was for a prostate biopsy machine for the hospital so the men of the district did not have to travel out of town for tests.
The Centennial Coal Golf day raises over $40,000 annually for charities in the district.
Centennial has always tried to conduct safe mining for the workforce, the district and the environment.
If approval is not given it would mean job loses, pressures on the vibility of local business, their employee's and the end of all the fine community work and help the mine workforce provides to those in need.
We all need mining.
The district and community needs Angus Place.
