Our local businesses rely on the community to ensure their businesses thrive. Without Angus Place, and other local mining industry, many families would be forced to leave town to aquire work which in turn would mean the money leaves the town also.
All aspects of the local community would be severly affected if the Angus Place Eastern Development was unable to proceed. Including, construction, real estate, health, education & tourisim. We would like to see Lithgow and its surrounding communities continue to grow as an important city in the central west.

The rock formations above this proposed mine extension are beautiful, and the damage that subsidence would cause to them would be barbarically tragic. It is similarly obscene to cause creek flows and swamp waters to move many metres underground and pretend that nothing has happened.

I believe this submission should go ahead as Angus Place has a good track records of mining in our area with minimal impact on the environment and local residents. Angus Place employ's a huge amount of local people from our small community which has already been affected greatly by local job losses. Angus Place is very community orientated and do provide donations/funding and sponsorship for all sorts of things eg. sporting teams and funding to purchase medical supplies for our community. It would have a very negative impact on our local community if this does not proceed.

Angus Place supports a workforce of up to 300 employees and has been a large employer and part of the region for many, many years. Angus Place also plays a big part in supplying coal for local electricity generation at Mt Piper Power Station

I sincerely hope this project will go ahead at Angus Place East. Angus Place is a major employer in our region and the prospect for more permanent or casual jobs in our area is very important to me and my family. Our main income comes from mining through Angus Place and we are well away from retirement age. We are depending on continuous employment at Angus Place. We cannot relocate as we have 3 elderly parents in their 80s depending on us here who would not be able to relocate with us. We are a mining town and always have been - lets keep it that way!

I overwhelmingly object to this proposal.
I have bushwalked extensively in this area and know how precious and irreplaceable it is. What Centennial is proposing to do is called environmental vandalism. The entire area is a unique part of our national heritage, it must be protected as a State Conservation Area and underground mining should only be allowed to continue if it causes no damage to the environment.
The past record of Centennial Coal points at pagoda cliff collapses, waste water discharges that poisoned the Wolgan River and ruined high swamps.
In summary,
*Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
*The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
*Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
*The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
*The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
*The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
*Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
*Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

I support the Angus Place Extension Project as I have grave concerns for our local community with so many job losses which ultimately impact on small businesses in the area. I work in the preschool in Wallerawang where a lot of children's parents are employed at Angus Place and surrounding mines. If these mines do not continue to grow and support a local workforce we would therefore lose children from our service which is already suffering from Government Funding cuts as families would need to relocate. Angus Place Colliery employees have also donated much needed funds to the Preschool which have covered unexpected costs, this support is valuable to our community.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

I object and equally oppose this current application as both the state and federal government are well aware of the previous historic damage to this area with previous long walls approved applications with data collected over years by volunteers. So why is that volunteers can find this and not the mining companies? The reasons why this damage has occurred is due to the current self reporting systems which has failed the environment as no consistent followup by government field staff to ensure that what has been written on those annuals reports are true and correct. The entire system needs to be reviewed.

No mining discharge water should be allowed to leave a mining site and flow into the natural creeks and streams unless it equals the same natural background levels. Mining discharge water should treated with desalination methods and not filtration dams. We know that the current levels of electrical conductivity in the upland/headwaters are approximately 30 -70us/cm, mining discharge water from this particular area is over 1000us/cm which is breaching the ANZECC guidelines.

I also bring to attention to the Planning department the recommendations by the Sydney Catchment Audit 2010 which clearly shows that the current and past historic performances from mining discharge water is not acceptable. Those recommendations should be implemented with proposal.

We have lost Kangaroo Swamp, Lambs Creek Swamp, Junction Swamp, East Wolgan Swamp which were suppose to be protected under both State TSC Act and EPBC Act for Endangered Ecological Communities.

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.

Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes with the recommendations of Board and Pillar with strict monitoring of government field staff as with the current Development Application for Springvale. Equally to be addressed is current discharge from Angus Place and Springvale which up until March 2014 was piped to Wallerawang Power Station and treated by desalination method but this process has ceased with Wallerawang Power Station shutting down and this discharge is currently flowing into the Coxs River. If the power station was made to implement this method then so should any mining discharge water that does not meet the natural background levels.

Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you

Angus Place have and will continue to employ a lot of people in and around the Lithgow District. There are numerous flow on employment from other businesses in the area in which employees of angus place spend their wages, plus the businesses who supply the goods and material ect for the mine. Angus Place supplies coal to the local power stations which also employ a lot of people in the district. Centennial Coal and Angus Place employees continue to support, sponsor and donate their time and money to local sports, charity events, community events and local hospitals.
Angus place has continued to extract coal for over 30 odd years now with very little impact on our local environment and the people who live here.

I am concerned for the devastation and loss already caused by the mining industry towards our beautiful land and I have seen their attempts at rejuvenating these areas with minimal success which lacks proof that this will inevitably rebuild those areas back to the natural pristine state they once were.
Its a crying shame that all some people see in the natural beauty of our earth is how much of it they can destroy to make themselves wealthy while all other people see is how lucky we are that we have such natural beautiful landscapes that inevitably keeps all healthy.
I do understand mining is peoples lively hood, and this is the sad part for those employed in this industry, but someone needs to make a stand and recognise that this area of growth needs urgent attention to recognise al these concerns. We can see its not in the best interest of our one and only earth. We can see that all those employed in this area need to be considered in regard to their livelihoods.
My argument is that I compare the health of the earth which ultimately reflects health for mankind to wealth for mankind which ultimately reflects ill health for our earth and mankind .
To easy for me to make judgement.

I have been field recording and photographing in the area of concern on the central Newnes Plateau and in the pristine Birds Rock Flora reserve, in the headwaters of the Bungleboori Creek and Carne Creek. The possibility of subsidence from Long wall mining in these areas and the inevitable impact on the environment is a travesty and would become a national disgrace. The area must not be damaged by this proposal.
I am strongly against this proposal. This area should become a state conservation area. It is used for recreational purposes by many people.

I have been employed at Angus Place Colliery since 1979.
Angus Place has always been very concious and made every effort to mine coal in an environmentally friendly way.
Angus Place has supported the local community for many years and I would like to see that continue for many more.
The jobs, support and paypackets that help Lithgow survive would only be enhanced with the approval of the new Angus Place Mine Extension project.
Lithgows economy relies heavily on the support from the mining industry.
To enable another generation of mineworkers and thier families to live and prosper in the Lithgow region can only be a benefit to all concerned.
I fully support the Angus Place Mine Extension project and can only see benefits arising from its success.
