Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

Please do not longwall mine this area. We must protect for future generations the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of the Gardens of Stone formations, rich as they are with cave structures, pristine creeks, hanging swamps, rare and even undiscovered wildlife and flora.

Too much damage has already been done in the past. We no longer have the moral right to discharge toxic wastes into waterways, to drain rare hanging swamps, to quarantine wilderness areas as 'off limits' to visitors due to subsidence dangers.

I love these places and have often visited them, and have studied the wildlife and recorded birdsongs, and taken visitors there over countless years. This landscape is way too valuable to destroy with longwall mining.

yours sincerely,

Vicki Powys

It would be a travesty to allow mining activities in this beautiful pristine and delicate environment. Our flora and fauna belongs to all Australians- let us leave this environment for future generations.

To Whom it May Concern,

Please consider your decision carefully. The Gardens of Stone area has important terrestrial and stream environments that must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you

Angus Place has been an integral part of the local community keeping a workforce of up to 300 employees, using the services of local businesses' which rely on the local mines for continuation of employment. It has a major part in supplying coal for local electricity generation. Angus place has continually been a positive supporter of local sporting events and various charities through direct donations and support. I have worked at Angus Place for 28 years creating a close network of family and friends, if the mine was forced to close it would be very disruptive to my family and friends possibly having to leave to find work else ware.I would like my children to enjoy the prosperity of employment through the supporting effects on the community from Angus Place Colliery and Centennial

i believe angus place extension should go ahead they have been mining here for over 30 years they have a good track record of mining in the local area with minimal impact on environment they employ up to 300 people directly and who knows how many indirectly. With one power station already closing down locals already feeling the pinch on the economy i have family who work in retail and business is slowing Lithgow needs mines to keep this town going and the lights on in NSW. So to all the people who are negative about mining you probably dont live here, i like this town, and dont want to move, the positives out way the negatives, as soon as people here mining its all doom and gloom they dont realise how much the economy in this country is dependent on mining.

The proposed Angus Place and Springvale longwall mining extensions are located under the centre of Newnes Plateau in the Gardens of Stone region. The mining will impact mainly on Carne Creek, but also the Wolgan River, Marangaroo and Bunglebouri Creek headwaters. The proposed Angus Place extension covers 2,638 hectares of the Plateau and will cause the land surface to subside up to 1.9 metres. The proposed Springvale extension covers 1,860 hectares of the Plateau and will cause the land surface to subside up to 1.65 metres. As a result of these movements, the surface sandstone rock will be cracked to a depth of 15 to 20 metres over the entire area mined. Popular Birds Rock, in the Flora Reserve, will be fractured. This cracking will cause surface groundwater aquifers to drop by up to 10 metres.

In total, all 73 nationally endangered swamps will be damaged by cracking of the underlying sandstone rock due to the proposed mining. The lower groundwater levels in turn will cause these nationally endangered swamps to dry out. The peat soils that support these swamps will then decompose and over a period of years eucalypts and banksias will migrate into the dying swamps as they evolve into dry land communities. This damage would also kill the many threatened plants and animals supported by these swamps, including the giant dragonfly. In fact, these swamps are so often destroyed by longwall coal mining that scientists have described such mining as a 'key threatening process'.

The combined effluent discharge from both mines will be 43.8ML/day in 2023. This eco-toxic effluent will discharge 30.8 tonnes/day (or 11,247 tonnes/year) of metal-rich salts to the Coxs River that supplies Sydney with drinking water.

Angus Place employs 300 workers and it supplies coal for electricity generation with minimal impact on local people and environment. The employees from Angus Place spend their wages in the local businesses and community keeping other people employed. Centennial Coal sponsor many local sporting clubs and their employees donate to many charities and organisations. I am 100 percent in favour of this extension to Angus Place.

I object to the impact this proposal will have on Carne Creek. This creek is currently pristine as shown by water testing. The private-interest proposal made does not justify the permanent damage which would occur to this public asset and part of our local heritage. The impact downstream on the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area is not acceptable.

I similarly object to the damage to wetlands, hanging swamps and pagodas which would be damaged by this proposal.

I similarly object to the impact of mine effluent on the Cox river, it's environment, and to local recreational fishing. These public impacts are not justified. If the mine does go ahead there must be strict requirements for treatment of effluent (e.g. reverse osmosis).

This proposal and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposal should be subject to a PAC review process. This area is of renowned geological, cultural and environmental heritage. It is public land - not private. A balance assessment of its values shows beyond any debate that this area should be protected in a state conservation area, not abandoned to private commercial interests.

I support the Angus Place mine extension project. As a local resident I understand the extreme significance of the mining industry in regards to our local economy. Without the mine extension, so many families will be put out of work which will inevitably have a negative snowball effect on the rest of the community and local businesses.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected forever in a state conservation area.
I have been into this fragile area and its beauty and fragility must be protected for all time.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must NOT be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is TOTALLY unacceptable. This will cause toxic chaos in the river catchments and the ventilation will exhaust toxic fumes that would destroy and decimate all the bushland and native fauna that rely on the tucker provided by the bush.
The mine should NOT proceed; if it were permitted, such a tragedy must be minimised.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River. Miners MUST accept they have a duty of care to nature as well as people; for too long miners have been allowed to get away with slash and burn approach and let someone else fix up their mess. They must be required to lodge a reparations at call bond of $20Million with state Treasury to keep them honest.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This state is how the waters should remain for all time. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, as happened to the the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to significantly improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
A complex risk assessment to international standards must be completed by independent ecological experts.
Yours faithfully,

GARRY RICHARDSON

Dear Madam/Sir,

I wish to lodge an objection to the Angus Place Mine Extension Project for the following reasons:

- Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but protected in a state conservation area.

- The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

- Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.

- Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.

- I believe this project should be rejected outright. and this area should be protected as a state conservation area. However, if this application is to be approved at the very least, please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes and minimise the damage. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
