I am making a submission FOR the Angus Place EIS. Having lived in the area for all of my life and have a strong family history of coal mining I know personally that Angus Place has always been consistent, employing up to 300 employees.
This is of major importance to the existence of the area. AP has a good reputation of its mining here with minimal impact to the people that live here and the local environment, playing a major role in the local electricity generation.
Local employment allows participation in local sporting, social and community groups. The wages earned are spent on local businesses and services. Without wages we will have NO businesses or need for services.
Another aspect concerning wages and the Centennial Charity Golf Day from AP is that a lot of money is donated back in to the community and other charities such as Legacy, Daffodil Day, Camp Quality and Early Intervention Kids just to name a few. The elderly, disabled and schools in our community benefit immensely from donations from Angus Place.
The Angus Place Mine Extension Project must go ahead to allow approx 300 employees to continue to support their families and the community.
This area is a mining town and without coal production there would not be a town

Dear Sirs/Madams
I am flabbergasted to read "The combined effluent discharge from both mines will be 43.8ML/day in 2023. This eco-toxic effluent will discharge 30.8 tonnes/day (or 11,247 tonnes/year) of metal-rich salts to the Coxs River that supplies Sydney with drinking water."

The company's own website says "The Company has a number of undeveloped coal resources and reserves. These are being progressively developed to meet anticipated market demand. Centennial aims to develop new projects in a manner that achieves a balance between economic, environmental and social considerations."

Seeing as "anticipated market demand" has reduced the world over and is likely to only get worse, WHAT are you doing risking these sacred rock formations for what will be seen by your own children as a misguided, beligerent mistake?

Also, after having damaged the water catchment of the southern branch of the Wolgan River they are now moving north and east under the still pristine Carne Creek area.

Coal mining has also:

Caused several hundred cliff collapses in the most beautiful part of the Blue Mountains;
Monitored these cliffs falls for 30 years, rather than acted to reduce the damage;
Turned (nationally endangered) swamps to dust by cracking near-surface aquifers;
Poisoned (nationally endangered) swamps with eco-toxic mine effluent;
Turned the Wolgan River red;
Claimed an environmental award for providing dirty, saline mine effluent to a power plant that shortly afterwards required a major repairs to its condensers costing tens of millions of dollars;
Blighted the landscape with a network of roads, pipes, survey lines and power lines;
Polluted drinking water supplies for Lithgow with nickel.

.The list goes on", Mr Muir said."In its monitoring reports to government the coal industry regularly understate the damage caused," he said. "Mine operations do not work minimise environmental damage and have been largely unresponsive to environmental concerns", he added.

"Crevasses, cliff falls and rock fractures are spoiling the sandstone beauty of the Gardens of Stone. Yet despite the intense study of mine subsidence for 30 years, the natural geomorphological processes that control cliff falls are not understood", said Mr Muir.

"The Gardens of Stone in NSW is as spectacular as the Bungle Bungle Ranges, with a far greater floristic diversity. It must not be needlessly degraded by coal mining, as it can be preserved for everyone to enjoy," Mr Muir said.

The damage can be curbed by reducing mining intensity. Taking such action would actually employ more miners and save this outstanding environment. One colliery has reduced its mining intensity, and a new one is about to start that will be far less damaging than previous operations. The State and Federal Governments should step in to protect from further damage the nationally endangered shrub swamps, the streams, cliffs and the sandstone pinnacles called pagodas that make up this natural wonderland", Mr Muir said.

I have other very serious concerns:
Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

The Lithgow Business Association represents over 70 Businesses in the Lithgow LGA. The Angus Place Mine plays a vital role in the economic stability and growth in our LGA. The mine employs a significant number of local members of our community.
If the project was not able to continue there would be a significant negative impact in our area, with many jobs lost and the economic viability of many small local businesses could be threatened.

I am writing in support of the Angus Place Mine Extension project.
I have lived in the Lithgow area all my life, with multiple members of my family being employed within the local coal industry over an extended period of time.
My family, along with many others, have been able to enjoy a good standard of living as a result of the local coal industry, with the majority of our earnings being spent within the local community assisting a broad range of small and medium size business's to successfully operate.
Angus Place has supplied coal to the local power stations for many years utilising their private haul road network to transport the coal without the need to transport on public roads and the associated risks to the public associated with this. If the project is approved, the power station will continue to be able to receive coal using this method of transport into the future.
Angus Place Colliery, and Centennial Coal as a company, has supported our local community for many years through various different sponsorships. If this project does not get approved it will impact greatly on the large number of locals that currently rely on this support to maintain their enjoyable lifestyle.
With the recent closure of the Wallerawang Power Station, the continued operation of Angus Place Colliery and the ongoing employment of its 300 employees is now even more important to the local economy within the Lithgow region. In addition to this, opportunities for our children to gain employment and remain in this area have reduced dramatically in recent years with many children who finish school having to relocate out of the district to find employment, if this project is not approved these opportunities will be reduced even further.
The Coal Industry has provided great support to the local economy within the Lithgow district for many years and without that continued support, the future for this area looks very bleak. It is therefore imperative that projects like the Angus Place Mine Extension are approved so that the Coal Industry can continue to support our local area into the future.

I strongly object this mining proposal because it is going to destroy one of the worlds most unique and beautiful wilderness areas.

Centennial Coal's mining activities substantially damaged threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau. We must not allow this to happen again in another pristine part of the Garden of Stones region.

These wonders of nature belong to all of us, not to a private company seeking to destroy world heritage for the sake of short term profit.

This is embarrassing for Australia and there is no excuse for for these actions of greed.

By destroying our environment we are taking away the chance of future generations to enjoy nature just as we can. We are depriving our children and the people living after us of the magical experiences that these regions offer.

This is most selfish and irresponsible. We will not be able to answer reproachful questions and justify what we did in 25 years time when any short term benefit will be long gone but the damage done by mining persists.

We must stop the mining proposal and ensure the protection of the Gardens of Stones.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you

Angus place colliery supports families in the Greater Lithgow City council area, with full-time employment, fund raisers, and assisting local charities and organisations.
The colliery is a large part of supplying coal to the local electricity generator.
The invironmental impact on the people and local environment has been minimal and the colliery has a good track record of this.
Lithgow has already lost 300 employment positions with the closure of the wang power generator, and can ill afford to loose more, it would be deverstating for the local business and community in general.
My family is now in its fourth generation of men employed in the angus place colliery, and they have a proud history of committment to the environment, and the local area, without this employment our local youth will be required to relocate, this has just started with the power generation closure, and from my personal experience with a young son, just finishing his trade it is deverstating to watch your child become depressed having to leave the district and state to find employment.
Angus place provides, employment for the local community which in turn is spent in the community generating more employment and opportunity, sponsorship for the sports, assisting the elderly and local charity ,

I am making this submission to show my support for the approval of the Angus Place Mine Extension Project. I firmly believe that the approval of the project is essential to the local area in terms of employment (either direct or indirect), the local economy as well as to the wider community.
With the approval of the Project, employment in the local area will be sustained. The mine itself directly employs around 300 employees and there are many more people employed in jobs which are indirectly linked either as suppliers/services to the mine as well as those in the local communities for example the shops, businesses, hospitals and schools, etc.

I come to the Gardens of Stone as a tourist and as an artist. I find it to be an area of exceptional natural beauty teeming with biodiversity. Please do not put these fragile structures and ecosystems at risk for the risky process of coal mining which is damaging the Global atmosphere as well as local environments. Coal mining is of dwindling economic importance and our country should be turning to sustainable energy as quickly as is possible.

The Blue mountains are a vital part of the Great Eastern Ranges, providing a way for fauna to migrate south as the climate warms, or to move away from other events such as bushfires. I have seen many photos of the region and it is a great natural beauty, I don't want my grandchildren to ask me why I didn't do more to save it.

I support the Angus Place Extension.
Angus Place plays a major part in the local economy supporting many charities, schools and local events.
The coal is transported on private haul roads causing minimal public impact.
The coal is produced underground thus avoiding ever growing visual scars on the surrounding environment.
