I HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY SPONSORED BY CENTENNIAL IN LITHGOW STORM JRL AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY A MAJOR SPONSOR IN WORKIES WOLVES RUGBY LEAGUE. THEY HAVE ALSO BROUGHT NEW LEAGUE GEAR FOR COOERWULL PRIMARY SCHOOL AND BEEN REGULAR DONATORS FOR FUNDRAISERS AT ALL MY SCHOOLS. MY FAMILY HAS LIVED HERE AND WORKED IN THE MINING INDUSTRY IN LITHGOW FOR 3 GENERATIONS, 2 OF WHICH ARE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED. OUR FAMILY SHOPS IN LITHGOW AND JOB LOSSES WOULD MEAN RELOCATION AND AFFECT OUR FAMILY STRUCTURE AND LOCAL BUSINESSESS WOULD SUFFER TERRIBLY

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am totally against the mining of this beautiful part of my world. I do not believe that any company should have the right to mine this pristine area and trash it. This land belongs to the people - not some cashed up mining company that is only looking at making a profit. The government should be ashamed of itself for putting profits before the environment.

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension (SSD 12_5602)

Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.
The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.
Centennial Coal must not be allowed to simply replicate the damage it has already caused to nationally threatened upland swamps on the Newnes Plateau for which it was required by the Commonwealth Government to pay $1.45 million in reparations.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
The proposed clearing of 14 hectares of forest for an additional ventilation facility is excessive and its proposed location close to the Wolgan River is unacceptable.
The proposed discharge of up to 43.8ML/day of eco-toxic mine effluent must be treated using reverse osmosis technology to remove all metals and salts before discharge to the Coxs River.
Carne Creek is currently in a pristine state, and its waters that flow through the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area are of the highest standard. This creek must not run bright orange or suffer reduced flows, just like the Wolgan River after Centennial Coal wrecked it.
Please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.
Yours sincerely,

Wendy Malcolm

I have been an employee at Angus Place Colliery for 18 years. The Colliery is not only a good employer of local people but is also a good corporate citizen supporting many local community groups.

Angus Place Colliery employees around 300 men and women from the Lithgow area, many of whom, like myself, have families.

Being an underground mine the Colliery has minimal impact on the environment both physically and aesthetically unlike another proposal currently seeking approval for an open cut mine in the area. The Open Cut mine would see less jobs for the area, have a greater environmental impact and if purchased by Energy Australia could be detrimental to the future of mines such as Angus Place and Springvale Coal. Energy Australia would then have the monopoly on coal supply into its power generators; Mt Piper and Wallerawang (now closing) Power Stations. In addition it should be noted that the coal from Angus Place is a higher quality than that from the CoalPac proposal.

Furthermore, Angus Place has large coal reserves and if this proposal is approved, depending on market conditions will see the life of the mine extended for 30 years which will employ me and many of my colleagues until retirement.

Dear Sir/Madam,

If you have ever spent time in the beautiful Gardens of Stone and Lost City sites you will know why it is precious and must be protected. Mining, money and resources should not come at the cost of beauty that has stood for thousands of years. I realise the importance of mining to the Australian economy, but a huge income could be generated by marketing these beautiful sites that will never dry up or fall away of their own accord. Mines are temporary but these environments are eternal and deserve respect and reverence.

Please consider these points in relation to the Angus Place mine extension:

I am pleased to provide a letter of support to the proposed extension for Angus Place Colliery for the following reasons:

1. My partner has been employed at the Colliery for 18 years and if this extension is approved the life of the colliery will be extended for a further 30 years ensuring his continued employment subject to external influences such as coal pricing and contracts.

2. The Colliery is not only a good employer of local people but is also a good corporate citizen supporting many local community groups.

3. The Colliery is an underground mine and has minimal impact on the environment both physically and aesthetically.

4. Unlike another proposal currently seeking approval for an open cut mine (CoalPac) in the area and indicating it would employ 160 people which would be brought into the area as there are no open cut mines in the Lithgow LGA, Angus Place directly employs approximately 300 people from the area.

As an avid walker in the gardens of stone, I find the angus place mine extension short sighted and will undoubted negatively affect region of national significance.

The Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals must be subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

Dear Sir/Madam,

State Significant Project - Angus Place Mine Extension

I am one of many who are concerned about harm to the environment from mining activities such as this. Important terrestrial and stream environments in this significant part of the Gardens of Stone region must not be damaged by longwall mining but instead protected in a state conservation area.

I also believe that full disclosure and transparency will only occur if the Angus Place and the adjoining Springvale mine extension proposals are made subject to a Planning Assessment Commission review with concurrent Public Hearings.

If some proposal must proceed, please require Centennial to revise this proposal to improve environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged.

Yours sincerely

I am very concerned about the impact that the proposed longwall mining extensions will have on the Gardens of Stone. This is an area rich in biodiversity and geodiversity which will be severely damaged by the mining. To destroy such a beautiful place would be an absolute disaster as it should be preserved. Once this is lost it cannot be replaced, and we would lose a very unique area which should be kept for future generations and for all to enjoy. It also threatens to contaminate Sydney's water catchment.

The proposed mining will take place in an area of great natural beauty with significant values for biodiversity, water quality and unique geological features. These last would be severely affected, and possibly destroyed during mining processes.
Mining is included as a key threatening process for the peat swamps in the area which will likely dry out; this would lead to the extinction of many populations of plants and animals which depend on the swamps. This company already has a poor record in environmental protection.
Please consider that coal mining is a dying industry and that the company will not be in a position to adequately rehabilitate the land following extraction.
Please consider that the long-term prosperity of the area will depend on it remaining an area of natural beauty, and that the value of the pristine area includes the provision of clean and reliable water.

I wish to submit my approval of the extension of Angus Place Colliery. Angus Place has in the past and currently continues to support our local area by employing a workforce of up to 300 employees. The Colliery has a proven track record of mining in or local district with minimal impacts to the local environment ant the people who live here. Angus Place supplies coal to the local power station.
Angus Place and its the majority of its workforce are involved in our local sporting and community groups and they help by spending their salaries at our local business and other services provided in the area. The workforce from the colliery donate weekly to numerous organisations and groups to show their support and to give back to the community.

I am very concerned to learn of this application to extend Angus Place mine and at the same time, the adjoining Springvale mine which are together a very large increase to coal mining in the one area. \they are both situated in land that has been identified as needing preservation as national park because of their conservation values, n particular protecting the unusual pagoda rock formation s f the gardens of Stone National Park.

Centennial Coal has been required by the Commonwealth government to pay $1,45million in reparations for damage done to nationally threatened upland swamps on its earlier operations in this area. We cannot take the risk that the damage that led to this measure will occur again.
The sandstone strata supporting the 22 nationally endangered swamps, including the 7 shrub swamps must not be fractured.
Centennial must revise its proposal so that there are improved environmental outcomes. Carne Creek, pagodas, cliffs and the many nationally endangered swamps that the current proposal puts at risk must not be damaged .
