The project will allow continued investment into the region by providing much needed jobs not only directly by doing the reline but also indirectly by supporting the various businesses in the area.

The 6BF reline project is positive for the environment, country & local community. The project is positive for the environment because of the greener technologies that will be part of the process improvements. The project is positive for Australia because overseas manufacturers do not necessarily have responsible government bodies like the EPA to help drive improvements, which makes their steel less sustainable, also without the 6BF reline Australia will have to rely on overseas produced steel. The project is positive for the local community through job creation, consumer confidence & also Bluescope steel supports many community groups financially.

This is a project that will ensure manufacturing in Australia is able to be maintained. It will provide jobs in steel processing plants all over australia, while also supporting lots of small companys in the local area that will service the Port Kembla steel works.

Dear Sir/Madaam
Bluescope's proposed reline of No.6 Blast Furnace should be allowed to proceed because of the following
- Bluescope provides stable employment for a large workforce that will be secured for a long time to come
-Bluescope's Port Kembla site provides a critical mass for other industrial companies that service Bluescope, without which most would struggle to survive
-The proposal reline includes as many carbon reduction emission features as is possible with current proven technology
-The proposal allows for addition of further carbon reducing technologies to be added in the future, E.G Hydrogen as a fuel
-Renewable energy projects need steel, making here will be less of a carbon footprint than importing it.
Thank you

I support the No 6 Blast Furnace Reline Project as it clearly both provides local jobs for the foreseeable future and provides a safe, sustainable and reliable source of steel for Australia's needs.

Both Covid 19 and the ongoing political tensions in the world have clearly highlighted that global supply chains are very fragile and susceptible to disruption, often with little warning. Capacity to manufacture vital goods within the Australian borders is therefore extremely important. A reliable source of steel products is vital for successful housing, commercial buildings, infrastructure and industrial projects. Its also important is that the steel is ethically produced and Bluescope Steel has stated publicly their clear targets to improve sustainability, reduce CO2 emissions, provide a safe and diverse workplace, respect communities and have responsible supply chains.

The relining of No6 Blast Furnace allows several CO2 reduction projects to be implemented as interim steps on the journey to green steel. Whilst green steel is the future its clearly not possible in the short term:
1. There is not enough green power available
2. It appears that there is nowhere near enough of the DRI pellet available in the world to satisfy the demand for steel unless other processes are developed to commercial scale that allows the use of readily available iron ores
3. There is not sufficient scrap steel in the world to allow a full conversion to electric scrap based steel production

A local steel industry provides many opportunities for sustainable local communities, to name a few:
1. Employment - Creating reliable jobs in a safety focused company for their employees and contractors with the compound effect of their incomes supporting family members.
2. Education and Training - The steel industry and the contractor network that supports it employs many trades and professional people. The education and training of this workforce required education to first become qualified as well as ongoing training and further education as they progress through their careers.
3. Local business - The income from the Bluescope Steel Illawarra employees and contractors supports a significant portion of the local businesses including both the ones directly providing goods and services to the steel industry and all other businesses supplying local residents. It's worth noting that many of the local retirees are ex Bluescope Steel employees and as the population ages many of those retiring from the steel industry continue to support the local economy.

For these reasons I support the objectives of the 6BF Reline Project as it provides a safe and reliable source of iron for use in steel production supporting a significant portion of Australia's needs. Also included in the project are responsible CO2 reduction projects as well as Bluescope Steel's ongoing commitment for projects to support conversion to green steel as the technology to manufacture the quantity of direct reduced iron and green power supplies & transmission grids to support these aims are developed.

The No6 Blast Furnace Reline is critical to support Australian manufacturing. The No.6 Blast Furnace will convert Australian steelmaking ingredients (iron ore and coal) into value added steel products. This allows the Australian economy to benefit from this value added manufacturing.
The disrupted supply chains Australia has faced as a result of the covid situation has shown how dependent and exposed Australia is to imported goods - maintaining domestic manufacturing capability is critical for our nations future and security.

This project will secure the economic future of the Port Kembla Steelworks for another 20 years post the 5BF closure. It will generate many jobs during engineering and construction phases, and will ensure ongoing employment for many local people in our community. In addition, many local, regional, NSW state and Australia wide business will benefit from the suppliers and related industry services to be provided throughout the 20 year campaign. These direct and indirect jobs will generate wealth within our local community and within Australia for the benefit of us all and our future generations. As a long serving employee of BlueScope, I also have a vested interest for this project to proceed in terms of my personal employment so that I can support and provide for my immediate family.

The project will see the continuation of Steelmaking in the Illawarra while a pathway to "zero carbon" steelmaking is viable.
I am supportive of retaining sovereign Steelmaking in Australia and this project goes some way to guaranteeing that in the medium term. There is significant investment in environmental controls which will enhance the current environmental performance.
