I support the project for the following reasons:
* Creation of local jobs;
* It is important to maintain a steelmaking industry in Australia to be less dependent on overseas manufacturing;
*A transition to future zero greenhouse emission steelmaking technology.

This is a great project that must be supported at all levels of government. Not only is it a great opportunity for BlueScope to secure its future locally, it also helps support the local area financially and country as a whole as a source as a source of security via the supply of steel. Additionally, BlueScope is providing significant additional funding to make environmental improvements so this refine will provide benefits beyond financials.

I support the project as it creates and supports jobs in the Illawarra and beyond. It is clear that BlueScope is intending to 'futureproof' the project so they can include clean and sustainable energy sources as they become available and fiscally responsible. They have made clear position statements on being carbon neutral by 2050 and taken first steps to achieving that goal (unlike many other big businesses or even governments). Steel will always be needed and if Australia can produce it in an environmentally responsible manner, we will be world leading.

The reline of the No. 6 Blast Furnace at BlueScope Steels Port Kembla facility in the Illawarra is a critical project that will benefit many groups. It supports up to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, will create new jobs during the construction phase, and significant investment is being made into developing improvements that minimise the environmental impact. BlueScope is a conscientous corporate citizen making decisions for the wellbeing and benefit of it employees and the all the communities within which it operates. This project will benefit the Illawarra, NSW and Australia by continuing to provide a world-class steel making facility in Australia.

The Number 6 Blast Furnace reline project supports 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in Wollongong using local contractors and suppliers. There will be upwards of 250 new jobs created during construction and the project is a $1 billion total project investment for BlueScope. The project will be completed in 3 years (by 2026) and BlueScope will spend over $100m in environmental improvement upgrades to prepare the business for green steelmaking in the future. This is an exciting and critical project for the Illawarra region.

I wholeheartedly support this project.
It provides welcome certainty to the local economy and employment. BlueScope has clearly embraced the need to transition to a lower carbon future and this project will expedite that transition.
The sovereign supply of steel in Australia is critical and the adoption of new technologies and the ongoing innovation will provide that surety.
Port Kembla is also an important precinct to the NSW and Australian economies. The guaranteed production of steel will drive the establishment of new industries, drive investment in new renewable energy sources and clean and modern manufacturing advances.
BlueScope is to be complimented on its desire to be part of the solution for a lower carbon future and for being prepared to make the investment to bring about that reality.
I have been fortunate to participate in the community information sessions and have confidence in that the people in BlueScope are genuinely committed to the change this project will bring.
This project must be approved, there is no alternative without destroying a regional economy and critical industry and limiting the ability to produce steel in this country.
I wholeheartedly support this project.

The #6 Blast Furnace Reline project is important to the local community, as it represents a significant commitment by BlueScope to continue Steelmaking in Port Kembla for a future 20+ years, supporting local jobs and businesses. BlueScope is a responsible company that engages with the community in a number of ways, and will adapt to changes in legislated requirements should the local/state/federal goverrnments require it.

I would like to express my support for the 6BF project.
Australia needs our own iron and steelmaking capabilities, and with the Port Kembla Steelworks being a proven operations for these products over many decades it makes total sense to keep this business viable.
Port Kembla Steelworks have a historical background of compliance with Environment conditions and requirements and the business has strong and stringent processes, standards and requirement to look after and care for the environment and communities. This is evident in the EIS submission with more improvements coming from Environmental upgrades that the project will deliver. So an even better place than where things are now.
The Illawarra and NSW communities need the Port Kembla Steelworks to continue operations into the future to support not only the direct labour that runs the operations but also the indirect businesses that support and rely on the Port Kembla Steelworks. I cannot imagine the Illawarra community existing, growing and prospering without the Port Kembla Steelworks being in full operation.
Please approve the 6BF project EIS submission to ensure the Illawarra region survives, ensuring local iron and steel production and knowing that Port Kembla Steelworks recognises their responsibilities to the environment and communities.

Bluescope Steel's Port Kembla Steelworks has been integral to the economic growth and strength of the Illawarra and the NSW industrial sector for decades. In my opinion, the ongoing viability and capability of the Pt Kembla Steelworks to produce iron & steel from raw materials, sourced from Australia, is essential for the local community, the state and the country.
There are thousands of people employed directly or indirectly by Bluescope Steel to support Pt Kembla Steelworks, and the No.6 Blast Furnace is without question, essential to the ongoing viability of the fully integrated steelworks, producing iron & steel from raw materials through to finished products used across Australia. In addition, there are hundreds of businesses supporting those companies, employees, and families of employees of BlueScope Steel, and for these reasons I wholeheartedly support the reline of No6 Blast Furnace for PKSW.
Besides the above, Australia as a sovereign nation, should always have the ability to produce steel, and to the best of my knowledge can do so using raw materials found in abundance and of the highest quality within Australia.
An essential project, for an essential iconic Australian company!
