I wholly support the project to reline number 6 blast furnace. The project is critical to having an Australian steel industry to protect our sovereign capabilities and to maintain a manufacturing industry in Australia. As the largest manufacturing facility in the country, this reline is the best way to protect our ongoing industry.
I understand the implication of new technologies such as "green steel", but the technology is just not there to implement as yet. Relining 6BF gives BlueScope time and funding to implement such technologies for future generations and to maintain such a critical industry.

Continuation of domestic steelmaking is nationally important, and the 6BF Reline Project is integral to maintaining Australia's current capability. Further to this, the Project will secure ongoing employment for a large number of employees and contractors both locally in the Illawarra and beyond.

I support the BF6 reline project. Retaining manufacturing capabilities in the Illawarra and Australia is important for skilled employment opportunities into the future. The technology improvements being incorporated to the project described by BlueScope show priorities for reducing the carbon footprint of steel manufacturing.

This project is a major, necessary and lower energy consuming process to underpin steelmaking at Port Kembla until new technology is developed and proven to transform the Port Kembla steel manufacturing plant to a low/zero carbon footprint over coming years. The new Blast Furnace will be a more efficient and lower energy consuming process than the current ageing No.5 Blast Furnace. Moreover, the No.6 Blast Furnace will underpin steelmaking at Port Kembla by providing ongoing production of iron for steelmaking, due to the current Blast Furnace reaching the end of its operating life.
Hence the No.6 Blast Furnace startup to replace the ageing No.5 Blast Furnace, is a major investment in the Port Kembla Steel plant and Australian steel Industry. It is absolutely necessary to underpin steelmaking at the Port Kembla plant to maintain Australian steelmaking and domestic sovereignty for steel supply into major forthcoming defence projects and other significant infrastructure projects for Australia's growth, development and continuing prosperity.

I worked at the steelworks in Port Kembla back in the 1960's. Back then and now, the steelworks industry plays a vital role in the Wollongong area for ongoing employment and future opportunities as well as providing essential materials for Australia and more especially the NSW economy. I support this project 100%.

I support this project. This project is important to both Illawarra residents and the broader Australian community as a whole. This is a significant investment that will create a large number of jobs during the construction phase and supports on an ongoing basis a significant number of jobs. This investment is also critical to the countries sovereign capability - without this investment there would be no flat products steel production in Australia which means that much of the steel needed for building and construction, energy production and military applications would need to come from imported sources.

The reline of 6BF is essential for the continuity of the Port Kembla Steelworks and the specific products it produces. Without this Steelworks, Australia would lose a huge contribution to its GDP as well as be at a strategic disadvantage

This project is essential to the local Illawarra community and has significant financial benefits for the broader Australian economy. It will provide continuation of employment for many direct and indirect employees and continue Wollongong's history as a Steelmaking city, supported by local mining. The products of this project are an essential part of our local and global manufacturing processes. Please approve without delay

Australia has already let go too many manufacturing industries, and if the recent pandemic trade restrictions weren't enough to show we are too dependent on other countries, then nothing will.
Australia needs to continue manufacturing steel for domestic and export use, and coke ovens are still the most economical way to do this.

The No 6 Blast Furnace reline is vital to the success of Bluescope Steel. It affects the livelihood of thousands of people in the community and future generations. These people either work at Bluescope or rely on their welfare.
