I object to the further commercialization of Bailleys and note -
The Bays Master Plan has not been finalized and therefore this submission is based on a 2000 MP for Balmain which is outdated.
The community is greatly impacted on by the proposal
The proposal secured under part 3a is a travesty against the local residents by Ports and its management of state owned land . There are compelling stats for recreational land for the young of Balmain.
This point was identified under the submissions made to Bays Master Plan as vital to the maritime and harbour as an tourist presentation of the harbour
The building proposed are a gross impact on the cruise terminal and the local residence.
Traffic impacts are considerable and not satisfied

I am a Balmain resident, boat owner and supporter of improved facilities for recreational boating on the harbour.

I am strongly in favour of the proposed dry stacking facility at White Bay 6. It will improve access for boaters to harbour facilities and reduce the number of parked boats in surrounding streets (which is itself a safety hazard, as well as reducing the amount of on-street parking available).

The proposed facility will complement maritime services already offered at White Bay 6 and will add to the utility of the precinct. Road access and facilities for the proposal are already in place.

I have owned several boats, including trailer boats, and Sydney Harbour is badly in need of dry boat storage. The facility at White Bay is already very good and this will add to its services to the boating community in Sydney. It will also assist make the harbour more easily accessible to people who live in the outer suburbs of Sydney and regional areas. It is a beautiful harbour and access should be easy for people of all incomes.

This is a perfect facility for Sydney Harbour boat users, this will give boat owners a safe and secure place to keep there vessel and will limit the amount of boats being stored on the side of the roads and in car parks.

I support the proposal, it will be beneficial as it will keep boats of the streets and carparks.

I highly support this application. I have our small trailer yacht parked on the street outside our house. I have applied for space at Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and only yesterday received a response by one that they have over a 150 boats on their waitlist and don't see a place being available for six years. A member of the committee told me recently that you may never get a spot because if you sell the boat and get a new one you need to start again.

This is a perfect use for White Bay.

Sydney is lacking in any dry boat storage facilities considering we arguably have the best harbour and waterways in the world.
You have only to drive the streets of Bondi and or Leichardt to see the number of boats parked on the streets, which in many instances takes up valuable spaces ideally meant for cars.

I see no reasonablle argument to deny the DA for Boat Storage at White Bay.

I support the proposed concept. We have a world class harbour and it should feature facilities consistent with the comunity's use of the harbour. Boating is not an 'elitist' recreation, look at the boat show range of craft. It's for everyone. .

It is the responsibility of a government to serve the interests of the people. Increasingly people are taking to the water for recreation, fishing and sport. The government should support those who are indulging in such activities.
On the other hand, residents around boating access points have a right to a degree of protection from noise, parking limitations, and disturbance from people launching boats.
White Bay is an opportunity to serve the people. To serve boat owners and residents by providing a purpose built facility to get people on the water.
Not to do so would indicate that the government was not supportive of boating, nor waterside residents. Given the publicity given to Olympic success, this could be a politically inappropriate action to take. Imagine the outrage if potential Olympian competitors were not able to get their boats in the water for training. It might seem a radical point, but News Limited is famous for beating up a story like this.
Another factor to consider is that of boats on the street. Urban living is becoming more concentrated - particularly around the inner city. There is no room to store boats if you live in a high rise apartment . They will end up on the street, and result in traffic congestion, and complaints from residents.
We need boat storage, and White Bay is one of the best opportunities we have seen in recent years for this to happen. I strongly urge the government to make the proposal a reality.

A very much needed service in Sydney Harbour. Recreational boating needs to be supported in the harbour and this is a step forward in providing the facilities required.

I believe we should have more storage facilities for boat storage around the harbour. The position of this facility is in an area that has always been a working part of the harbour.
I think it will help take trailers off the streets.

Lack of boating infrastructure is a serious issue facing Sydney. Most of us are very proud of our harbour. For hundreds of years Sydneysiders have been getting out on the water in vessels of every size: kayaks, tinnies, small motor boats, dinghies and yachts - and some large motor cruisers. Waterfront land is finite and mostly covered with housing. Most of us are not fortunate enough to live by the harbour with waterfront access so we rely on public spaces which have diminished significantly over the years due to residential developments. It's important that mums dads and kids from all over Sydney can enjoy our natural wonder. This development is low impact on an existing site. It is hidden from view by an escarpment. It is already used for marine purposes ... and it provides employment. It will help keep boats off the streets. There are many positive aspects to this proposal and it should be allowed to go ahead for the benefit of the locals and Sydney as a whole.

As I am just about to purchase a new boat I have been exploring options for where I will keep the boat. A facility like the one proposed at White Bay 6 would be ideal. There is currently no dry boat rack storage on the Harbour. To park my boat on the street where I live would block parking, annoy neighbours and create a road safety hazard. Given that White Bay is already focused on marine uses this location would be ideal - easy access from inner west suburbs and then on to the harbour. With a lot of the infrastructure and facilities already in place. I am certain that the impact on surrounding area will not be significant and can be managed based on what is proposed. Roads are there, usage mostly on weekends (not peak times), boat activities are already happening at the site and is not noisy anyway. Fully support the application and hope that we finally get a proper boat storage facility on the harbour. Long overdue.

The streets of Sydney are cluttered with boats taking up valuable car parking spaces, providing a road safety hazard and being unsightly

A dry boat rack and stack storage facility, which currently does not exist on the Harbour, would offer boat users a facility to assist with this

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to express my strong support for the proposed dry boat stack at the White Bay Marine Park. We have been looking for such a storage facility on the harbour that we can get to easily and also to get our boat off the road where it upsets the neighbours and is a safety hazard.
This is a great site that provides good Harbour access and is easy for us to get to on the weekend when we will be using it. It has lots of supporting boating activity around it and appears very secure. It is a perfect use for this wharf. A lot better use actually than the cars it used to have parked all over it!
I can't see why anyone could reasonably complain about it, the boat stack will be largely hidden within the steel structure and blend with the passenger terminal next door. It has great road access.
Sydney Harbour desperately needs such a facility, there aren't any about that I know of. Melbourne has had one at St Kilda for at least 10 years that our friends use. It works really well. Its not noisy or bothersome in any way.

Yours faithfully,
Orlaith Turner

Dear Department of Planning,

I have been operating a Marine brokerage business in Sydney harbour for the past 11 years, focusing on new and high quality second hand powerboats.

The biggest hurdle for my business has been the availability of affordable, quality berthing in Sydney Harbour. I am convinced if a project such as MP06_0037 MOD 4 - Marine Refuelling & Supply Facility, White Bay, will increase boats sales not only supporting local business, but greatly benefiting the industry as a whole.

I welcome any questions on the matter.

With Regards,

I write in support of this much needed boating facility adjacent to Sydney Harbour .
The towing of trailers through the streets to access boat ramps adds to road congestion on weekends so to have boats safely stored at the waters edge is a social and environmental plus.
The management team associated with this needed project have the experience and skills necessary to make this a successful and much needed addition to Sydney Harbour's boating storage capacity.
