I object to the Modification to SSD 5093 and ask that it be refused on
the following grounds:

* Modification 4 proposes a significant loss of trees, much greater in
number than that originally proposed and given approval.

* It has unacceptable impacts on the shale forest in and around
Bundara Reserve which is protected under the Commonwealth EPBC Act and
State threatened species legislation.

* Supporting environmental assessments to the original application
proposed none or minimal disturbance to Bundara Reserve. It is now
proposed to remove 22 trees from Bundara Reserve and adjoining lands
all of which are zoned for environmental protection in Ryde's LEP
2014. The proposed works would not be permitted with or without
consent in this zone.

* The impact of this Modification upon the character and visual
amenity of Bundara Reserve is unacceptable and irreversible.

* Urban Growth is required by the Director General of Planning to
assess the biodiversity impacts on Bundara Reserve of the whole
development, including the pedestrian bridge.

* Modification 4 is inconsistent with the original approval.

* It is also inconsistent with the newly adopted Greater Sydney
Commission's North District Plan which provides the regional planning
framework for development in North Ryde.

* The need to increase the urban tree canopy not decrease it is a
priority of the Greater Sydney North District Plan. This is an
important step towards improving amenity and air quality along major
roads with Epping Road recognized as one of the North District's
busiest.

* A cost benefit analysis should be provided to the Department and the
community as the cost of the pedestrian bridge seems substantially
higher than originally approved.

* I find it unacceptable that this is on exhibition during the public
holiday period over Easter. Additional time should have been allotted
for the community to make submissions to take the days of the public
holiday into account.

* I believe that Landcom should be directed to redesign the bridge's
alignment and design to take into account the environmental
constraints identified in the original environmental assessment.

* An improved alignment must be obtained that both protects the urban
tree canopy and provides better access to the cemetery and the future
community plaza areas.

Stop destroying our mature trees.
- I object to the proposal (ie clearly object vs comment)
- The original consent approval was granted on the basis that no trees
be removed given the significant of the reserved in context of Ryde's
Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest
- With less than 0.5% left of this type of forest in the Sydney
bioregion its critical this reserve and its trees be protected
- The redesign is inappropriate and visually dominates the landscape.
In particular the bridge section is very wide at the Bundara corner
- The Modification is inconsistent with the intent of the Greater
Sydney Commission North District Plan and government's Greener Places
Policy which seeks to increase the urban canopy cover, particularly
along major roads such as Epping Road where the local community faces
increased health risks from air pollution
- The Modification is not in the public interest.

Sydney has unique wildlife and a growing population. It's hard to keep a
balance but we must take the time and energy to adapt progress for the
sake ou'd the environment.
Mature trees take 100 years. Replanting somewhere else will not be
beneficial for any animal. No nests for birds no keaves for possums no
hollows. Resisting the temptation to take the easy portion and save
the trees as well as replanting more for any that might be lost is the
way to go.
The gov of' nsw is leading every company into disregarding the
environment for the salted of profit. Let's see that change here.

Friends of Lane Cove National Park oppose the redesign of this pedestrian
bridge such that it now requires some 43 trees to be removed from
Bundara Reserve. The initial design proposal did not require a large
number of trees to be removed and we see no good reason that this
should be changed.
Budara reserve is a well documented remnant of the EEC STIF of which
there is less than 3% of the original cover remaining, it is important
the retain as much as possible of this community. The Delhi Road works
have already removed areas of STIF that were previously well
documented and recognised by the TID and OEH when the Delhi Road
station was developed, the project has also removed an area containing
all species listed in the EEC Sydney Turpentine Margin Forest.
Providing less than adequate compensation for the loss of habitat in
Lane Cove National Park.
Each of the modifications to this development mean the loss of
additional important environmental areas. Where will it stop.
If there is any loss then there must be adequate compensation for real
replacement not a token pay off.

I am strongly opposed to this modification request. The reasons for my
objection are as follows:
This development will cause a considerable damage to our area, North
Ryde, destroying its character and devaluing our properties. This
modification is completely unwarranted. It will further damage the
streetscape and the appearance of the area. It shows a complete
disregard for the environment native trees and animals that make this
area special.
This modification is calling for further destruction of the natural
environment and that is a complete crime. These trees, nice native
trees need to stay and give at least some greenery to this sombre and
overdeveloped area. These trees house native species, birds and other
animals.
The State government lied to us when the initial consultation was
conducted' These trees were to remain intact and all the tall
buildings were to face the cemetery not Epping Highway. This promise
was completely broken as the Urban Growth and Chinese Developer have
been given a free reign to do what they please with our area.
The Urban Activation is a dumb concept without rational justification.
It is created to enrich the developers and donors to the government.
The area in question belongs to the State electorate of Lane Cove but
is affects only the Ryde State electorate. This creates a ludicrous
situation, and was engineered to create an opportunity for the member
for Ryde, Victor Dominello, to not get involved in defending the
community.
Minister Roberts should take a step back and look after our North Ryde
community and the long term prospects of the area and its environment
rather than the short term gains of the Developer.
Please refuse this modification as it is an environmental disaster and
architectural catastrophe and total injustice for our community.

Hi there,

My name is Alexandra Lynch, and I object to the above Modification to
SSD 5093 and ask that it be refused outright. I find it unacceptable
that this is on exhibition over Easter.

I have worked and studied in the Ryde area at Macquarie University
since 2012. I studied environmental science during my Masters degree
at Macquarie Uni, so I know how vital it is to ensure the environment
is protected for current and future generations, and for the overall
health of the planet. I love Ryde's native bushland habitats and have

trees were going to be removed I knew I had to make a submission.

Re: Modification 4 to SSD 5093 - M2 site, North Ryde Station Urban
Activation Precinct

To Who it May Concern,

I would like to object to the above Modification to SSD 5093 and ask
that it be refused outright.

I have lived in the Epping area for over 30 years and have enjoyed
living in the area because of its mature trees. I believe Bundara
Reserve is a precious community resource that should be preserved in
its entirety for future generations. I am shocked by the number of
mature trees that may be lost if this proposal is approved.

Modification 4 proposes a significant loss of trees, much greater in
number than that originally proposed and given approval. In particular
it affects the shale forest in and around Bundara Reserve which is
protected under Commonwealth and State threatened species legislation.

I understand from the start of the Lachlan's Line development, Urban
Growth was required by the Director General of Planning to assess the
biodiversity impacts on Bundara Reserve of the whole development,
including the pedestrian bridge.

Supporting environmental assessments to the original application
proposed none or minimal disturbance to Bundara Reserve. Now it is

I do not consider Modification 4 is consistent with the original
approval.

Increasing the tree canopy not decreasing it is an important step
towards improving amenity and air quality along Epping Road recognised
as one of the busiest main roads in the area.

I understand the mayor of Ryde and Ryde Councillors are opposed to
this modification and I fully support their efforts in saving the
trees in Bundara Reserve and their opposition to this application.

I find it quite ridiculous that you want to chop down these trees
The trees should be protected
Surely there are many other possible solutions to overcome the trees
Why is a bridge being built in 2020 able to be compromised by bird
droppings ?
This is absurd
Can you not build the bridge to be able to withstand such treatments
for a period of time??? It is inevitable that the bridge will need
maintenance , why not save money from not chopping trees and that
could be put toward the maintenance and upkeep of the paintwork etc??
Can you not employ some sort of technology to keep the birds or
whatever animals doing the damage away from the bridge without harm?
The end result is that whoever is behind the final say has no care for
the enviroment whatsoever
Think about your kids that will never be able to see the type of
landscape we live in because you chopped all there trees down to build
a bridge which will be gone in 100 years and the trees would have
still been there most likely because nature does not have a.lifespan
because it is in constant cycle of repetition

I object to the NSW Government proposal to remove more than 22 trees from
Bundara Reserve in North Ryde to, in part, mitigate the impact bird
droppings will have on a new pedestrian footbridge!
Bundara Reserve is a small pocket of bushland located in the middle of
Epping Road, Delhi Road and the M2 Motorway that crucially houses a
stand of protected Turpentine-Ironbark trees.
We, as ,residents and rate payers are thoroughly fed up with the
destruction of remnants of our natural environment in order to put in
more concrete and steel. Please reject this proposal.

This proposed modification should be rejected. The environmental impacts
of this proposed modification are too great. The proposal would have
serious negative impacts on the Turpentine Ironbark Forest present in
Bundara Reserve and on the community in general.

Turpentine Ironbark Forest is critically endangered and the proposal
to remove trees because "Bird droppings and tree sap can damage the
bridge paint, which protects the steel structure from erosion." is not
at all appropriate. Bridge paint cannot come before a critically
endangered ecological community.

The developer is out of touch with environmental and community
expectations. To suggest the removal of endangered forest for this
reason shows what little regard they have for an endangered ecological
community. The forest remnant should be protected at all costs. Surely
they can build a bridge that doesn't impact the forest - this is a
design/engineering issue and can easily be overcome without the
removal of the trees.

The suggestion in the ecologist report that the proposal would not
have a significant impact on Turpentine Ironbark Forest is flawed. All
remnant patches of Turpentine Ironbark Forest need to be protected and
impacts to any small patch could have disastrous consequences for the
patch itself and the community overall. For example the proposed
removal of these trees reduces the available genetic pool for the
species impacted and changes the perimeter-area ratio of the patch,
increasing edge effects and amplifying weed invasion. Also as the
community is protected by the EPBC Act, has the applicant considered
the impacts to EPBC protected Turpentine Ironbark Forest - an EPBC
referral should be required.

Please reject the proposal. A new design needs to be produced without
impacts to Turpentine Ironbark Forest. The current proposed level of
impact is unacceptable. It's not just one or two trees proposed to be
removed but an additional 17. There is a better way to approach this.

How utterly disgraceful to propose the removal of 43 trees including

Turpentine Iron bark trees are critically endangered, - ridiculous to

Dear Sir/Madam,

Do I understand correctly that the proposal is to remove trees from a
critically endangered forest because bird droppings and tree sap "can"
damage the paint on the bridge? If so, there are two simple and far
superior solutions: 1, use different paint, or 2, be prepared to
repaint.

If my original understanding is correct, then the short sightedness
and self entitlement of the proposal is breath taking. I really hope
that whoever came up with the idea is due for rapid retirement.

I object to Modification 4 to SSD 5093 at North Ryde Station Urban
Activation Precinct and believe that the proposal be rejected
outright. A new design should be developed for the pedestrian bridge,
one which protects the turpentine/ironbark forest of Bundara Reserve.

Bundara Reserve is a remarkable place which I have long marvelled at
as an area that has survived so much development as I drive along busy
Delhi and Epping Roads. I also admire the hard work that fellow
bushcarers have put into this precious area of bushland. That more
than 22 trees could be removed from an area zoned E2 for environmental
protection in Ryde's LEP 2014, is unacceptable and not in accordance
with environmental assessments to the original application. Removal of
so many trees from a small reserve makes the remaining forest
vulnerable, reduces the tree canopy which provides a much-needed
amenity, and reduces air quality in the area.

Landcom could provide an innovative plan for a bridge which is also
consistent with environmental concerns. To remove so many trees simply
to improve maintenance of the bridge because of bird droppings and
tree sap is difficult to understand. Northern Sydney is losing too
much of its natural areas and I hope that the government reconsiders
the current proposal.
