The Pauline Father's Monastery at Penrose Park is a place of prayer and
pilgrimage - a sacred place. It would not be at all conducive to
prayer to have a quarry just behind it. As a society we need such
sacred places kept peaceful and operating for our mental and spiritual
health. We have been monthly viditors to Penrose Park for 20 years. It
is a deeply significant place for thousands of people. Please do not
allow this mine to go ahead.

I visit one of the neighbouring properties regularly with my husband and
4 children and I am very concerned for their safety if this
development goes ahead. It will have detrimental effects on all
aspects, from noise to pollution as well as the safety concerns that I
fear. I strongly object to this going forward.

I have been visiting an adjoining property for many years and find the
development application proposal very much out of touch and
inapropriate with the surrounding area. I am concerned it will have
significant impact on the local wild life, the tranquil atmospher of
the area and that it will have a lasting impact on the ground water
both supply and long term quality.
Thank you

The
mine will affect our water quality, noise from the trucks will disturb
the animal life in the vicinity. Also it would impact the serenity at
the Pauline Fathers Monestry where people come to reflect and pray.

This is a horrible idea. It will for all intents and purposes destroy the

Dear Councillor,
I am writing this letter to acknowledge my stand on the sand mining
next door to the Penrose Park Church grounds.
I believe by mining next door you will upset a lot of people who
attend here for peace and quiet to pray with the lord. I have been
here many times and enjoy the tranquillity with the nature and the
grotos. I would one day bring my children here and pray with them in
this majestic place. So I am asking for you to not approve the mining
in this area. For the future generations to feel the peacefulness of
nature and the happiness of the groto. That different groups and
people invested to make this place wonderful. The sounds of nature
that you absorb in this place is so relaxing. That I dread the mining
will disturb the natural environment of plants and animals. I plead to
not approve the mining in this area.

Building a sand quarry will destroy the natural flora and fauna
environment, pollute the waterways and airways and create noise
pollution in this area. The proposed sand quarry is also very close to
a place of worship I attend among thousands of others and it will
destroy the peace and tranquility of the place of worship as well as
be a danger to the health of the thousands of visitors that attend
this place.

Dear Sirs,
I am writing to object to this sand mine for several reasons:
1. This project is planned to be an open-cut pit which will be below
the current water table. This will adversely affect the bores upon
which many locals depend upon for agriculture.
2. Removing a significant volume of sandstone that has a critical role
in filtering and cleaning the aquifer and the river flows.
3. Later on tipping 18 million tons of Sydney landfill into the pit
which will create a permanent leachate into the aquifer.
4. Land clearing of 63 hectares of native bush. This will endanger
native flora and fauna.
5. Committing the Wingecarribee Council to maintain a new Hume Highway
overpass and local access road for a private venture that provides no
positive benefit whatsoever for the shire or its citizens.

There are many other reasons to object to this quarry but the above I
believe are the most important reasons to stop any further
consideration of the project.

Yours sincerely,

Kim Zegenhagen,
24 Tulloona Avenue, Bowral, NSW, 2576.

Aposing the Sutton Forest Sand Mine my keys concerns are:
* Lowering the water table of the Sutton Forest area and adversely
affecting the bore water on which so many locals depend. This is a 42
hectare hole to a depth of 39 metres below the current water table! It
will affect our ground water levels
* Tipping 18 million tons of Sydney waste fill into the Highlands.
* Damage to the water quality of Long Swamp Creek and the underlying
aquifer, which feed the Nepean water catchment for Sydney
* Adverse health effects of airborn dust that will be carried across
the population centres of the Highlands
* Dramatic increase in heavy trucking on the Hume Highway and the
Illawarra Highway overpass
* Clearing of and blocking a significant wildlife corridor and
disturbance to flora and fauna
* Noise, blasting and light pollution
* Destroying of peace and tranquility at The Shrine of Our Lady of
Mercy - Penrose Park, which attracts 10,000 national and international
tourists a year to the Highlands
* Building an overpass on Hume Highway and local access road, just
south of Sally's Corner Rd, for which our Council has to approve,
build and provide ongoing maintenance for a private venture.

I think that the continued destruction of our wild areas is having a huge
impact on the wildlife. We do not want to land up with extinct species
due to mans greed. Please can you stop encroaching on the land in
order to give 20 local jobs. Be mindful of the native wildlife and
STOP stealing their habitat.

This proposal will completely destroy the peace and worship at Penrose
park, our place of worsip. Many thousands of people spend a lot of time
here.
It will destroy the local environment and have effects on wildlife and
water supply locally and throughout syney for all time to come. This
is a disgraceful proposal.

Besides all the questions of possible damage to the local environment and
the Sydney catchment, I am personally concerned that adjacent to the
proposed site is a very sacred shrine, the Shrine of Our Lady of
Mercy.Thousands of pilgrims come to this shrine to find peace and
solace. In an age that has blatant disregard for traditional values of
society, let's remember that the good of our society still lies in the
following of those who value the sacred. Please don't profane this
holy place with the proposed activities.

we are coming here for 22 yrs, for us it is a day of rest and peace. and
we dont like to see it ruined. For us it is a place of worship. this
place makes us relax and release the stress of life. We used to come
and do the gardens, we would plants but the wildlife won the battle.
The grotto is a very special place for us, we would prepare the Grotto
alter. This is a second home for me and my husband. I dont want this
mine to spoil this special place.
