I am objecting to the aforementioned application for the following
reasons:
- The mine is a 47 hectare open cut pit to 39 metres below the water
table, which would reduce and pollute the water supplies of the
adjacent shrine and its neighbours.
- 24 hour noise, blasting and light pollution would ruin the peace and
tranquillity of the grounds of the shrine, and disrupt the worship of
those in attendance at the shrine.
- The dust will affect our health and damage the shrines.
- The clearance of 63 hectares of native bush will cause degradation
of native floral and faunae

Please do not go ahead with the sand mine as it will have a detrimental
effect on the environment as well as destroy pristine land & cause
major damage, problems & health risks to the millions of worshippers
who frequent the Pauline Brothers shrine.

I believe this mine will be a detriment to the community, and to major
events that run in the area.

I've been visiting the near by Penrose parkwhich borders the proposed
sand mine since I was a kid growing up. An open cut mine would be
devastating to the natural environment, wildlife, farms and the
surrounding community.

Hi,
My family (wife and 4 children) have been fortunate to spend
significant time at Sutton Forest during the past 14 years at our
friends farm on Hanging Rock Road, next to the monastery. We enjoy the
peace and tranquillity of the bush setting and appreciate the natural
environment as it stands. We are extremely concerned about the
proposed sandstone mine as we believe it will adversely impact on the
natural environment, and significant risks are evident around the
probable impact on water levels throughout the local region if this
development were to proceed. The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
appears very 'light-on' for this point, and should be further assessed
by independent experts to determine how severe these risks are.
We are also concerned about the dust and noise that will likely occur
due to not only the mining activity itself, but also the significant
volume of truck movements throughout the day. This will destroy the
ambience and peaceful character of this beautiful region which we get
to enjoy so regularly. In the future, I wish for my kids to be able to
enjoy what we have enjoyed at Sutton Forest, and not have that ripped
away by a mining development which is unsuitable for this area.

Pristine natural bush land. I am wondering who this product is desrined
for?. Too many huge non Australian corporations are destroying
Australian land just for sheer money. Keep australian resources for
Australians.
I have spent a lot of time in Sutton Forrest and know residents live
ther because of the great unspoilt beauty of the area. Leave it as a
natural area.
No amount of money can replace what is there.

I object to the project. You're allowing destruction of wildlife and the
environment for money. This should be illegal. You're destroying
properties around you as well.

Like the Lane Cove River park, the Southern Highlands area has gorgeous
bush walks. I visit my friend who lives in Sutton Forest frequently as
we are both retired and like to go walking/hiking. I was astounded to
hear about the proposed sand quarry and the close proximity to Sutton
Forest natural bush lands. The area abounds with birds and animals all
of which will suffer as well as the local residents with the noise and
air pollution plus reduced water table. Farmers, wineries and local
growers will all be impacted. This cannot be allowed to go ahead

As a regular visitor to the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy at Penrose Park,
I wish to voice my concern and objection to the establishment of heavy
industry on its border. The Shrine is a place of pilgrimage, a place
for quiet prayer and reflection. It is visited by thousands every
week. The development of the sand mine on its border would completely
destroy the peaceful atmosphere which is so important and greatly
appreciated by both local, national and international visitors.

As a long term resident of the highlands, I object to the sand mine at
Sutton Forest, it is environmentally unsound. We have enough
environmental diasters still to sort out from previous mines in our
area, without adding another one.
We own a 2500 acre private nature reserve, lower down on the catchment
flow from the minesite, and also do not want it impacted in any way,
which if the mine proceeds, is always a possibility.
It's mind-boggling that in this day and age, this is being considered
in a water catchment area for Sydney. I understand sand is needed for
developers constructions, to line their (and the politicians) pockets.
But mining in the Sydney water catchment area is ridiculous.

Against this as I visit land up that area regularly and find it extremely

I regularly visit a friends property in this area, and particularly enjoy
the tranquility, peacefulness and fresh air when I do. I find this a
great place to escape the city and get in touch with nature in its
purest form. Development of a quarry may be detrimental to this and
therefore I object to this occurring.

Iv been visiting this property in the Southern Highlands since I was a

My parents own the property at 160 hanging Rock Road, and I have great
concerns about this quarry going ahead as I one day I may also be
living at the property. Below are my greatest concerns:
-The noise from the machinery and trucks from the mine, which will
definitely be heard at our property, because even now we can hear the
traffic and trucks from the Hume Hwy near the proposed mine entrance.
-The long term effects on the bore water quality caused by dumping of
non-natural fill in the area is a great health risk
-The area will not be a good place for myself to raise a family due to
the dust and visual affects the mine will create

To whom it may concern,

We ask you please to not go ahead with the sand mine near Sutton
Forest, bordering the shrine of Our Lady of Mercy on Hanging Rock
Road. The constant noise will disturb the peace of the area which was
purchased long ago in this area because of the peace and tranquility -
thousands of people who come here every year will be affected. Other
big causes for concern include the air pollution (dust), the pollution
of water supplies for all locals and the destruction of one of our
shrines (on the rock base) on the property due to the extensive damage
being done to the rock shelf on the other property. This will affect
dozens in a major way and thousands more over the course of the year.
We ask politely that you take it somewhere else!

Kind regards,

Visitor to the area and friend of the shrine

I am extremely disheartened and disappointed that the Governement wish to
pursue the application for a sand quarry in Sutton Forrest.

This will directly impact many business', family, friends,
farms/properties and of course the hundreds of thousands of native
wildlife and livestock that will be effected for the next 30 years or
so and will never repair!

This isn't just effecting the air quality, but also the water quantity
which the ENTIRE area rely heavily on for everyday life!

Please stop this project before harming Australia any mods'

We, of Figtree NSW object to the application made by Sutton Forest
Quarries Pty Ltd application number SSD6334 due to the following. We
have been visited this tranquil area for many years on regular
intervals, we feel the proposed development will strongly impact on
the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful area, effecting the
quality of air and also producing excessive noise.
