Thank you for the opportunity to have a say about this proposed project:
I am extremely concerned that the government would consider extending mining at Airly for another 20 years. It sends a message to the fossil fuel companies that it is "open slather" now. Even a few years ago, these companies were reducing their operations with a view to investing in renewables. Yet, now, on the other hand, we are experiencing more and more evidence of the effects that scientists have been predicting as part of climate change - every day- unprecedented floods, fires, and heatwaves. Already there are court cases in Queensland which are taking the position that the government is neglecting its duty of care responsibilities towards for the younger generations by allowing these projects to proceed. An average of one new fossil fuel project a month is being approved at the moment. How can this short term thinking be of any real benefit to Australians?

If we look towards the future, there will be real value, as Sydney doubles in size, of preserving this area as pristine wilderness. People will be desperate to be able to get out of the city to experience nature, clean air and water. The environmental damage being done by Airly mine over 20 years, particularly in relation to subsidence will destroy this area forever.

This project should not be approved.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project.
The reasons I am objecting are: Centennial's previous track record; potential damage to an environmentally sensitive area; and because coal production needs to be phased out to help ease the climate disasters the future is facing.
Previous track record: The last approval stipulated a limit on subsidence and this was exceeded. Virtually nothing was done about this and the fine was minimal. New cracks are appearing. Centennials response was to suggest filling these cracks with wet cement!
Environmentally sensitive area: there are flora that have been found on top of the plateau that are nowhere else in the world; subsidence is affecting the water courses.
climate change.- this issue needs to be seriously considered when granting approvals for fossil fuel extraction projects. As a local farmer and RFS firefighter climate change is a very real threat of which we have first hand experience. By moving away from fossil fuels we can significantly reduce these risks. To approve another 20 years of mining is leaving it til way too late.
