Mod 10 - Processing of First Cut spent potlining

I would like to express my objection to the application which seeks to remove the distinction between first a second cut Spent Pot Linings from the defunct Kurri Kurri Aluminium smelter. This material is highly toxic, and to remove the distinction between the two byproducts seeks to infer they are both the same and can be treated the same. There are hundreds of thousands of tons of this toxic and inflammable material on the site of the old smelter, and this is what Weston Aluminium seeks to process. Furthermore, we attended a public meeting conducted by the company, explaining their intention to extend the processing facility so they can process more toxic waste of all kinds from all over NSW. Weston aluminium is situated beside the townships of Kurri Kurri and Weston with homes in Northcote street being within 200 metres from the factory. Furthermore, the whole area is likely to be affected by emissions, considering the amount to be processed, its toxic nature, and the necessity to transport all the materials by road to the site. Although we have assurances from management that there won't be any toxic emissions, there have been several instances already where fumes have been observed issuing from the plant. So on the grounds of detrimental effects to the community, I express my objections
