To whom it may concern,

Please find attached my letter opposing Veolia’s waste to power proposal at Tarago, which I trust will be included with all the other letters sent to your department from “Communities Against The Tarago Incinerator”

Please note that I acknowledge and accept the department’s disclaimer and declaration.

If anyone wishes to contact me to discuss my concerns please do so on 0411380842

Your sincerely

A R Cameron

I object to the proposed Woodlawn incinerator on the basis that if it is not safe for a site in Sydney, why is it safe for Woodlawn.

My name is Madeleine Maslo and I live on a farm just outside of Bungendore. I have great concerns about the proposed building of Veolia’s incinerator and strongly object to an incinerator being built in Tarago (or anywhere else for that matter).
I fear that Veolia’s incinerator will be harmful to my personal health, my children’s health, and the community’s health and prosperity in general.
It seems to me irresponsible to propose the building of a toxic waste incinerator when there is evidence in the literature that show the negative impact of incinerators on population health (Sharma et al. 2013, Tait et al. 2019). Considering the number of agricultural businesses that are located in the Bungendore/Tarago area I find it even more concerning as this will not only impact on the communities that live in Tarago’s surrounding area but also will impact on the food supplied to people in other areas such as Canberra and Yass. We run a certified organic egg farm, our hens roam freely across our pastures and whatever they will eat will ultimately get into the eggs. How can you guarantee that the toxic waste smoke residues will not end up on our pastures?
Additionally, in a time in which we as a community really need to try to reduce pollution, building an incinerator is just another nail in the coffin for our environment.
I understand that in newer incinerators which are being maintained regularly the population health risk is decreased. However, there is not a convincing amount of evidence in the literature that can show me that there is no risk at all. Also, it requires a huge amount of trust that Veolia management and personnel will do the right things and considering reported guideline breaches and waste leaching into Tarago groundwater I really do not have any trust into the proper management of the incinerator at all.
I really hope that my and everyone else’s objections will be read and considered.
