The extension of Wilpinjong Mine will destroy the community of Wollar. The cumulative social impact of loss of population through mining projects from Ulan to Bylong has not been considered.
The noise assessment, monitoring and mitigation measures are highly inadequate.
Air quality has not been assessed against the new standards adopted in December 2015
The cumulative impact on biodiversity, Aboriginal cultural heritage, water sources, greenhouse gas emissions, community and rural industry has not been rigorously assessed.
The ongoing coal extraction will produce an additional 20 million tonnes of greenhouse gas per year, which will exacerbate the impacts of climate change, and is at odds with Australia's commitments under the Paris Accord.
The area has significant landscape Aboriginal cultural heritage values that have not been assessed in a regional context.
The extension will remove 354 ha of remnant native vegetation impacting 24 threatened species and communities - more than the current approval. The biodiversity offsets will not provide sufficient habitat for the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater.
The extension removes existing buffer zones for the Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve.
The extension will leave 3 final voids in the landscape that will impact the local environment and waterways for hundreds of years into the future. This is a completely unacceptable legacy.
The ongoing impacts on groundwater and surface water systems will be greater than predicted.
The predicted job numbers are overstated compared with the current workforce extracting the same volume of coal.
Peabody Energy is in deep financial distress and may not be fit to meet all obligations.
The contract to supply AGL's Bayswater Power Station can be met by the current approval.
The proposal to continue extracting low quality coal while causing irreversible environmental and social damage cannot be justified.

I support the Wilpinjong Extension Project for the following reasons:
- I have been a local in this area for 30 years and have seen Mudgee grow into a beautiful and successful town with the support of the mining industry either directly or through employment
- Having been employed in procurement and contract roles, I know that Wilpinjong strives towards supporting local businesses whenever they can demonstrate competitiveness
- I have been employed in the mining industry in this region since I moved here 30 years ago. There are limited roles in my career field and I would like to stay at Wilpinjong until I retire. It would be very likely I would need to relocate should my current employment cease, which is not my preference as we have worked very hard to establish our property to create our forever home
- Having been a part of the Greenfields construction project at Wilpinjong, I would be proud to have been a part of a project from start to completion
- I have witnessed the hard work which is undertaken in the rehabilitation of the land and am confident that Peabody acts in a responsible and diligent manner

Wilpinjong Extension Project

Double R Pty Ltd supports the Wilpinjong Extension Project due to the following key points:
* Wilpinjong provides significant direct employment, this proposed extension provides further employment security to current and future employees. These employment opportunities include numerous trainee and apprenticeships.
* Numerous contractors and suppliers stand to benefit from the extension with greater demand of services adding to the diversity of the local economic region of Mudgee and surrounding areas.
* The same suppliers and contractors employ a vast number of employees.
* All families of direct and non direct employees of the Wilpinjong project support the local region with local spending.
* Wilpinjong and support contractors provide extensive support to non profit organisation in the region.

I oppose the development of the coal mine near Wollar. I am concerned that dust and toxic blast plumes will make the village unsafe to live in.

There are technical deficiencies in teh environmental impact statement. Over-arching this, history shows that even when compliant with current safety rules for mining operations, management of dust and toxic blast plumes is inadequate.

Being in close proximity to Goulburn River National Park and Munghorn Gap Nature reserve I am concerned about environmental impacts on these high value nature reserves.

As the planning process does not include the impact of burning the mined coal on the wider global community, I believe the planning process is flawed.

I support this because it will sustain the local economy of the region which has been struggling over the last 3 years. I am concerned about the risk of future cuts threatening local jobs and forcing people to leave the region or be unemployed.

I am currently employed at Wilpinjong Coal Mine. We moved to Mudgee from NZ over 4 years ago and I have been employed since then and love my job.
The Mine offers the local region many employment opportunities along with the support to many ancillary businesses.
These income streams greatly benefit the local region. Evidence of this can be seen when the mining downturn came about, many local businesses, the local housing market and other areas were negatively affected.
With the continuation of this mining project, I believe the region will benefit greatly and, along with the implementation of strong environmental guidelines for the mine, it will have a very positive effect on the region for many years to come.
Thank you.

I am a local community member not employed by the mines however I have several local business that are indirect beneficiaries of the mines economic well being. I support this extension from the perspective of it having a positive impact on the economic and social fabric of Mudgee. I am comfortable that the environmental concerns have been addressed and I believe that we are lucky in that the location of the extension has minimal impact on human and agricultural activity. There are many mines approved in Australia that do not in my opinion meet this basic test. We need to balance our country's ability to protect our environment and prime agricultural land while at the same time being pragmatic about encouraging economic vitality for the benefit of our community and our nation.
