Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

1300 jobs depend on Mount Thorley Warkworth, which has been part of the Singleton community for more than 30 years. I can only imagine what the impact would be to families who have been in the region for generations if it is not approved to continue mining. But the impact doesn't stop with the people directly employed by MTW: in 2013 alone, the company I worked for spent over $188 million with local businesses in the Upper Hunter. Without the continuation, impacts will be felt right across the Hunter region.

There are a large number of people whose livlihood rely on the mine remaining viable with continued operations. Not only the 1300 people directly impacted if the mine was to stop operations but also many others who would be impacted if these people and their families needed to move to other areas.

I am very confident being in project department, that Rio Tinto is committed not to impact the community or environment and spending huge amount of money on that to keep this mine viable. As per latest survey, people started understanding the real economic benefit of the mine not only to the country but also to NSW economy. I have an young family and have mortgages and other educational commitment for my children and hence i request this extension approval to be done at the earliest possible time to avoid huge job losses. I am very sure it is not only the 1300 jobs affected but will indirectly affect lot of other people including health, manufacturing and housing markets as well.

I request NSW Government and PAC to approve this application by Warkworth at the earliest.

And have been working in the mining industry since leaving school.

Warkworth Continuation Project is essential for local communities to survive. Not only are local people, but local businesses also benefit from the business.

Coal and Allied have a excellent track record for protecting the environment while also considering communitiy expectations that are beyond statutory requirements.

At 8.2% royalty, this is also a large economic loss to the state government - schools, infrastructure and health.

1300 jobs depend on MTW - the impact on not only myself but families and friends will be detrimental if MTW is not approved to continue mining. Living in Singleton and seeing first hand the contribution MTW makes to the community I can only imagine how wide spread the effect will be and the impact on the community as a whole.

After living in the Hunter Valley for 2 years I understand the impact of losing 1300 Jobs will have on the local community. The flow on effects to the local business, schools, sporting clubs will be significant. I strongly support the revised submission to expand the Mt Thorley Warkworth Mine.

Whatever your standpoint for the future of mining in australia, we still have a really large need for the thermal coal produced by MTW. Riotinto works with, and supports the local community in the NSW rural region and i really hope that they continue being able to operate, so that the locals and families directly affected by the mine can continue to have stability and security in thier futures.

1300 jobs rely on this and the future of the mine and potentially alot of buisnesses in the area will rely on this.

The effects to the direct community and indirectly to the larger companies who operate within this area will be significantly detrimental if the project does not proceed.

The detrimental facts of the community's wellbeing should outweigh the thoughts of the group of people with dissimilar views who are opposing the project. The project team are cooperatively listening to and assisting with relationships, rectifying complaints as much as feasible.

I wish to support the project to support the many jobs that will be lost if it does not go ahead and also to maximise the extraction of the public asset (being the coal resource), to maximise the return to the government to invest in infrastructure.

I support the continuation of Mount Thorley mine as this operation is a major provider of jobs, is a major source of income for numerous businesses and service providers and a significant contributor to community projects and charities.

The mining industry is a key contributor to the revenue of Australia, and integral to the continued prosperity of our country.
MTW supports thousands of individuals, taking into account its direct employees and those employees in the broader community whose livelihood depend on this application being successful.
I support the application because I believe it will deliver the best outcome for the majority of the local community, for the State and for Australia.
