This project will provide construction, mining and support jobs amounting to huge funds to support and grow the area.
There have been very few sites in Australia that have had the scrutiny that this project has had and will be required to be operated under.

Re: Wallarah 2 Coal Project (SSD-4974)
It is evident from the comprehensive environmental, social and economic studies completed that the Wallarah 2 Coal Project (the project) has, throughout the development of the EIS, been designed and refined to create a financially justifiable project, while meeting the requirements and objectives of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and the principles of ecologically sustainable development.
Specifically, it is noted the Project will;
- avoid, mitigate, or manage all of the environmental, social and health risks of the project, including those of vital importance to the local and regional area;
- provide significant employment opportunities both during construction (up to 450 direct jobs) and operation (up to 300 direct and 500 indirect jobs); and
- have substantial positive impacts for the local, regional, state and national economies.
I further support the latest amendments to the project and specifically note the reduced land disturbance associated with the Tooheys Road Site, reducing the disturbance area by some 26 ha, or 29% of the original disturbance footprint of that site.
In consideration of the above, while recognising the project will require substantial and complex management and mitigation measures to address the risks identified, it is clear that the project, if approved, will provide significant benefits to the local communities, businesses, people of NSW and the Australian economy.
Accordingly, I offer my support for the project.

Gone are the days of irresponsible coal mining with disregard for the impacts. With the scrutiny this project has received and the level of effort and detail that has gone into the EIS, I cannot understand why people are still so opposed. I urge people to not make the mistake of tarring underground coal mining with the same brush as open-cut mining. Having grown up in Lake Macquarie, surrounded by underground mines, most people are completely unaware of their existence.
Considering the benefits that this project would provide to the local community it would be ludicrous to reject it based on the unfounded and uneducated fears of a noisy minority.

I object without question to this ammended proposal. While changes may have been made to the rail loop/spur line and train load out, the risk to the water catchment and concerns over dust and noise to neighbouring suburbs like mine remain as clear as ever. If there is even a small chance of this mine causing any of the above issues, it should be taken as an absolute due to the seriousness of the matter.

biggest threats to the environment and water
supplies due to the potential for water quality and
quantity to be compromised. The proposed Wallarah 2 Coal Mine is at a similar depth to the BHP Elouera Mine, which
undermined two creeks in the water supply
catchments. The damage to the creeks
included extensive and intense cracking of their
rock beds and draining of all rock pools in mined areas, where under normal unmined circumstances the affected streams would be flowing (as was the case with similar
creeks in the vicinity not subject to mining). The
Elouera Mine reported increased water inflow
(225 megalitres a month) into the mine itself. The
loss of water was most serious in terms of the
catchments' capacity to supply water, particularly
in drought years and the loss of catchment
integrity and biota. Our water supply is far too important put at risk and the Wallarah 2 Coal Project is a direct threat.
The impacts of breathing in coal dust is another reason why this project should not proceed. Global studies indicate ingesting fine particles can lead to increased health risks including stroke, heart attack, lung cancer and respiratory problems. The particles can be breathed right down into the lung and get into the bloodstream and cause inflammation and substantial damage.
Due to the fact that the EPA says data on fine particle pollution levels is not available as yet, I strongly oppose this project. as it is a risk to the very air we breathe.

We like many businesses in our region are suffering significant reductions in income due to the down turn in the mining industry. This project will not only help the employment situation in the Wyong area it will also have a flow on effect to many businesses in the Hunter. The Wallarah project team are investing their resources to ensure that they fulfill all government requirements for the assesment process, we hope that the goverment sees the importance of giving full approval to the project so that investment in this important industry continues.

In this case, RUS Mining gives its full support to the Wallarah 2 Coal Project for various reasons and believes that the project should be supported and approved because of the following.
1. The project is designed to create little or no environmental impact by the mining methods it proposes to use and the proposed location of infrastructure.
2. The location of this project, the workings and the surface infrastructure is located as such to create little or no impact for residential and rural neighbours.
3. There is existing infrastructure in the area and close by to support the project.
4. There is existing skilled labour amongst the local population to carry out the works required for the project and its ongoing operation.
5. There are many local suppliers of equipment, consumables and services to support the project and its on-going operation.
6. With many other similar coal mines closed recently in the area, this project could fill the void in resources and employment left by the other closures.
7. A business of this size entering the local economy will have a great flow on effect for the local community creating both direct and in-direct jobs.
RUS Mining Services believe that upon the independent research and readings it has carried out on the Wallarah 2 Coal Project over many years now this is a great project offering many positives to the community and again reiterate our full support of the project.

With the down-scaling and closure of several local operations the modern processes being proposed for the Wallarah 2 Coal project will directly support the sustainability of the principal operations and the subsidiary industry requirement.
From the environmental conformance criteria and information provided it is evident this operation will have respectful consideration of its impacts on local lands and communities.
