Provides lots of employment opportunities to the local community and I
believe it's a great boost for the North West Region.

I believe the project will provide secure and long term employment for a
large number of staff in the New England region. It will provide
royalties for the state government to spend on schools, hospitals and
emergency services. Local small businesses will benefit from supplying
a range of services and products to the mine. I expect that Whitehaven
will follow all environmental conditions and controls placed upon them
as they have for their other mines, as long as these are satisfied I
believe the mine is a great opportunity for the region and the state.

Vickery Mine can only be good for the region generally. It will bring in
significant employment, in turn generating local wealth and associated
taxes.

I would like to support the Vickery project. The mine when developed will
provide many jobs to the local community and significant royalty and
tax revenue to both the Federal and NSW Governments. The high quality
coal from the project will also help to reduce carbon emissions in the
countries where the coal is used.

This is a good project for NSW and Australia.

Currently in the global market there is an ever increasing demand for
high quality coal that contains higher calorific value, low ash and
low sulfur content. South East Asia continues to install coal fired
power stations to meet their countries energy needs, to support their
improvements in living standards and growth in industrial output. In
parallel there is a push by developed Asian nations to lower emissions
and total coal consumption which increases the demand for higher
quality thermal coal.
In my role as a coal marketer I see firsthand the increasing demand
for higher quality coals and the need for thermal coals that will be
produced by the Vickery project. With limited new mine developments
occurring globally and declining coal qualities from other mining
regions around the world (Indonesia, South Africa and Colombia) the
availability of high quality in the current market and future is going
to fall short of the demand for these products. Projects like Vickery
will underpin the buildout of HELE power stations that will require
high quality coal supply for the next 40-50 years as they play a part
in their nations.
I support the development of the Vickery project as there is an ever
increasing need for higher quality coal in the short and medium term
as coal fired generation increases and existing mines in the Hunter
Valley near the end of their current lives.

Vickery means more jobs, more growth and a stronger future for Whitehaven
and North West NSW.
My family along with 1000's of other families rely heavily on the
mining sector. It is not only the direct employment of staff, it is
the communities that benifit substancially also.

We will continue to need coal for the foreseeable future until
sustainable renewable energy base load power becomes a practical
reality. Subject to appropriate environmental controls, it is required
in the national interest to allow coal projects such as these to
continue in the short to medium term. Weaning the economy off fossil
fuels must be carefully planned.

Carbon emission concerns (which are entirely valid) should be resolved
by implementation of a carbon trading or offset scheme to
appropriately cost externalities and encourage innovation in renewable
energy. Creation of a carbon market will help put Australia at the
forefront of developing this renewable energy technology. Federal
government interference in the creation of this market is not a reason
to oppose development of this mine.

Restricting coal supply will not achieve these goals without imposing
enormous pain through disruption of our energy supplies and
unaffordable price rises. Accordingly, this project should be allowed
to proceed with appropriate environmental conditions and monitoring.

The extension to the Vickery Mine will provide fantastic opportunities
for the people of the region. The increase in expenditure of wages in
the surrounding towns will be great for local people and businesses.
the continued employment of mine workers will also be of great benefit
to the community. Whitehaven Coal is best placed to develop this asset
as they have proved to be considerate stakeholders in the community.

In my opinion the Vickery project will be good for the Gunnedah wider
region creating more employment for locals and also giving reason for
young families to move into the area. History will show that local
people employed locally also spend locally which in turn supports a
number of businesses and industries outside of mining.

Our company is pleased with the proposed Vickery expansion - J.A.Berry
has a successful business relationship with Whitehaven since the
beginning of their presence in the Gunnedah/Narrabri region - creating
many jobs and start up businesses as well as supporting existing
businesses in both Narrabri ,Boggabri and Gunnedah - Gunnedah needs
coal mining to continue for many years yet.
