contributions to greenhouse emissions and climate change.
I note that the Environmental Impact Statement states the Tahmoor
project would contribute to only 0.19% of Australia's emission
commitments. However according to analysis by independent
international scientific body, Climate Action Tracker (CAT), Australia
is woefully behind in meeting its Paris commitments, with an overall
increase rather than plateau or decrease in emission levels.
Consequently, I feel that every potential contributor to Australia's
carbon footprint is significant.
As I am sure you aware, climate change is already having a significant
and disastrous impact both at home and overseas with extreme weather
events and rising sea levels. As a doctor, I am also concerned about
the adverse health consequences of climate change. Australia cannot
afford to continue promoting coal. Our own future, as well as that of
our grandchildren and generations to come, depend on it.
I urge NSW Planning and Environment to consider this when evaluating
this project.

employed at the colliery and firmly believe that this project will be
a major benefit to the local community by providing many more years of
employment for myself and the hundreds of others employed there. The
majority of employees live within a 60 kilometre radius of the mine
and spend their money in the local community.

well into the future. This brings employment to the area, funds and
community spirit. There was a general somber mood when the closure was
announced, the town and surrounding areas would have been affected
immensely.
Employment will jump by 50-150 people during construction and retain
the existing workforce for many years, more than half who live in this
community.

following:
Extend the life of Tahmoor Underground mine, securing ongoing
employment of the current workforce of over 400 people.
The Tahmoor South Project will create both direct and indirect job
opportunities for the people of Wollondilly, outer west Sydney,
Wollongong and the Southern Highlands, including up to 175 additional
employees.
The project has considered the local communities and minimized any
impacts. There is a low risk of adverse environmental outcomes but
clearly defined positive economic and social benefits for the local
and regional communities aswell as the State in general.
The NSW economy relies on continued growth of industry and government
needs to ensure that NSW remains an attractive place for investment.
The local mining activity contributes greatly to the survival of the
local economies of Tahmoor, Bargo and Picton. The project will result
in a net economic benefit of $140 Million to l the local Wollondilly
region and nearly $700 Million to NSW.
The Tahmoor South project is scientifically, economically and socially
robust and needs to be supported by government and not adversely
influenced by a vocal minority with a certain agenda.
