While a hospital is very overdue for the area, the current proposal is extremely inadequate and poorly planned.
The location will make already bad traffic on Windsor Road even worse. While this location was no doubt a political decision, the effect on the local area is likely to be negative overall.
Given the lack of a local hospital, the current plans are for an extremely undersized hospital which, given the services to be offered, is actually an oversized medical centre. Basic hospital facilities like ICU and maternity are not offered. I note that the plans fail to show the supposed emergency department.
As much as the area needs a hospital, we would be better off without it than with this overgrown medical centre. Then when we have a government willing to properly plan and fund a hospital, build it properly.
