I am commenting from a cycling viewpoint. I note from other enquiries that the existing cycleway in front of the school will not be affected by the creation of the new school. I would like to reiterate the importance of that link for commuters and recreational cyclists. It will also become a valuable way for students to come to school with many good linkages to that cyclepath. So it is vital that the cyclepath remains clear throughout the construction period and when the the school becomes operational.
I'd also like to suggest that rather than providing only 20 bike racks for 40 bikes, you provide 50 bike racks for 100 bikes. For a school with an expected student population of 1000 and staffing of 61, 100 spaces would seem more appropriate.
This will allow the school to promote a strong sustainable culture including cycling to school for both staff and students, diminishing the impact of cars on the surrounding area.
Finally, in support of the above, a sensible set of 'end of trip' faciliities such as showers, storage areas, particularly for staff who ride to work, would be a vital inclusion at the new school
