I am in support of this project as it will directly and indirectly affect the local community in the way of employment, not only at the Mine itself but will also have a flow-on effect to businesses as contractors and subcontractors are engaged to take on roles.
The wider community will benefit with family growth, ie in schools, sporting and social groups, money spent with local businesses and the support of the Mine in community projects.

Re: Maxwell Underground Mine (MOD2) – SSD-9526-Mod-2

I am writing to lodge my support for the modification sought by Malabar Resources’ for its Maxwell Underground Project.
This is a sensible modification to an approved project that has been designed so our community can enjoy a much needed economic boost without negatively impacting other local industries and land uses.
I support Mod-2 because the Maxwell project will deliver important benefits for the local community, including 250 jobs during the construction phase and once operational the mine will generate 350 long-term jobs in addition to many more indirect jobs and stimulus for local businesses.
These benefits will make a substantial long-term difference to the communities in the Upper Hunter and to NSW.
The modification sought by Malabar does not change the underground mining method, nor increase the coal production rate or total coal mined. I understand the benefits of the modification include;
• a safer environment for workers
• less use of groundwater for the life of the mine
• a reduction in the duration of mining beneath Edderton Road

Our community needs a diverse economy and the Maxwell Underground Project can help make sure our economy prospers for decades to come.
Kind Regards

Neil Birchall

PPS has been a locally operated and owned Business in Muswellbrook for over 10 years without the bilateral support we garner from the local operations (choosing local business) we would not be able to support our local rate paying employees nor the local industry and economy.
PPS management and staff wholly support the Maxwell Underground (MOD2).

My Company has been in operation in the Muswellbrook LGA for some 40+ years, we have experienced the development of many opencast mines in that time, Malabar/Maxwell is to be developed as an underground operation and will provide metalurgical coal for the production of steel. The proponents have extensive experience in mining operations, being instuemental in developing Excel Coal at Bulga, Whitehaven at Gunnedah and the rejuvenation of Drayton at Muswellbrook.Malabar/Maxwell have introduced a rehabilitation of the Drayton open cast site, which will utilize existing coal handling infrastructure to process and transport the product of Maxwell Underground to the Newcasatle Port by rail.
Additionally, the project will provide a solar energy farm to offset the power requirterments of the new operation.
The benfits that will accrue to our LGA will provide a construction and production workforce that will inject confidence into the LGA, provide supply business boost to suppliers, contribute to the income of both the Community and the State.
We wholeheartedly SUPPORT the Project.

The existing Maxwell Underground Project approval is of state significance and provides employment and royalties opportunities as demanded by the local community. This is reflected by the IPC finding that the project is to deliver significant economic benefits for the local area, region and State including 250 construction and 350 operational jobs.

The proposed modification as presented does not include any detrimental outcomes and incorporates greater efficiencies and better operational outcomes to support the ongoing economic and employment returns to the community through the full life of mine. With safety and environmental impacts as key drivers, optimising safe works through alignment with present geology and minimising impacts of subsidence will offer great benefits to people and land use upon completion of mining operations.

Maxwell presents as an exemplary corporate citizen who provide open and honest consultation and support of the local community through varying engagement activities.
