I object to the extension of the Mangoola Coal Mine. This is predominantly due to the immediate and ongoing effects that it will continue to have on our local community, particularly in regards to air and water quality. Many members of our community have been forced to be displaced as a result of the existence of this mine, from farms they have held for generations and are now unable to reap the benefits of or even sell due to its significantly decreased value. Additionally, there is a severe opportunity cost of seeing more land and water devoted to mining rather than sustainable industries such as agriculture, thoroughbreds or wine. As such, there are significant issues for the health and wellbeing of our community. You must ask yourself whether the Hunter can sustain another open cut mine given the ongoing effects from air quality, dust, noise and destruction of property.

I support the Mangoola Coal Continued Operations Project.

Mangoola Open Cut operation has proven itself to be a strong performer from an environment and community perspective. The natural landform mine rehabilitation is best practice within the industry. There is a strong focus on environmental compliance and community aspects, going above and beyond the minimum requirements of the existing Project Approval. Continual improvement has been encouraged and supported throughout Glencore/Mangoola.

This project provides further job security for employees and injection of funds into the local economy for more years to come. This, I believe, is especially important in a time where we are all feeling the impacts of drought (and will continue to do so for some time to come) and are also faced with growing global economic uncertainty. I believe if it weren't for the mines, many more businesses in the Upper Hunter would be facing closure during these difficult times. I believe that mining and other industries can co-exist.

Every activity has some impact. However I am satisfied that Mangoola take their commitments and legal obligations seriously, are responsibly managing the existing operation and would continue to do so for the MCCO Project. Mangoola has always been transparent in offering tours of the mine, hosting visits from regulators, industry peers, educators, local residents and so forth.

Mangoola regularly engages with the local community whether it be through consultation on environmental and other aspects of the operation through to supporting local charities, schools, community services and more. Mangoola employees, and their families, are also part of the local community and contribute to the growth and support of this community whether it be through their own spending, sending children to local schools, volunteering with the RFS or raising their own money for local charities.

I strongly believe this project should be approved.

This proposed coal mine is located in the local area in which I have lived my whole life. The current restrictions on noise, dust, lighting and water management have been maintained by the site and I suggest they will be into the future. The mine site has a very strong tradition of only employing local workers unlike other mines in the area. If this project would not go ahead it would have a devastating impact of the surrounding communities.

Against Mangoola coal/ living in close proximity to the operation an affected area, I have a major concern with increased dust we already have issues with this.noise is the next problem we have we already have complained many times about this it will only be worse seeing that the mine is coming within 2500metres from our property!! Another major problem is the devaluation of our property!!! We are currently wanting to renovate our house and spend on fencing and infer structures but we sit in no mans land, can’t see the point when the value will go backwards if the mine is approved!! Local realestates have valued our property now and then if the mine is approved and we will be -$400k!!! Financially fucked!! The biggest thing is now if we want to sell and can’t because of the mine, what can we do! Stagnant land is what we all end up with!! Any suggestions what the people in the affected area should do??? I don’t have a problem with coal mines just when they are this close to my house and family.

I would like to voice my support for the Mangoola Coal Continued Operations Submission. It provides me with employment in the region of which I have lived and worked for the last 15 years. I believe Mangoola to be an excellent mine which has operated to industry best standards, with a continuous drive to manage it's impact on the surrounding environment and community.

I believe the continuation of the Mangoola Coal project will provide much needed financial support to outlying communities currently struggling to resource upkeep of community infrastructure. Employment and job security of local communities including increased ability to provide higher level of education to family thus providing sustainable improved quality of life into the future.

I strongly support the continued operation of Mangoola coal, I believe this will benefit the local community by providing more secure permanent jobs allowing for more expenditure in small local communities.
As Mangoola has been operating for 8+ years currently, I believe they are doing a great job in minimizing their noise and dust pollution.

I strongly oppose the Mangoola Coal continued operations proposal. This projects has many impacts on our quality of life, such as; an increase in the noise level, amount of dust within and around the area, devaluing of our property, possible interference with the groundwater and the stress this proposal has on our lives. I strongly recommend the department should reject this proposed mining extension.
