I am currently working as a contractor at Mangoola mine and am absolutely impressed with the way this mine goes about everything to do with safety, mining, processing, transportation, environmental and community issues. I believe Mangoola should be granted as they are exemplary in all aspects of coal extraction and process.

I have recently been on a guided tour of the rehab area at Mangoola mine and was blown away with the major effort that has been undertaken and is currently still being undertaken in putting the land back to the way it was, from natural rooling hills , to stop errosion of landwhen it rains to replanting of trees that were in the area, places for wildlife to return ,feel safe to start breeding again. Santcuary for creatures that you forget would inhabit the area aswell. Well done and just wish the other mines in the area could follow suit. The extention would provide jobs and security for the area that is needed to keep small country towns going in these hard times.

I think the continuation of Mangoola Coal is very important to the community. It is a large source of employment for Muswellbrook and it’s surrounding towns. This helps our community keep spending in town, supporting small and medium businesses. Mangoola take their environmental impact seriously with rehabilitation and care for the environment.
Mangoola also support local programs, sports and community events. They use local suppliers which also keeps our town afloat.
I see the continuation as a very positive result for the wider community.

The Mangoola Coal Continued Operation project is a very big positive for the community. Mangoola provides a large amount of support to our local community not only through financial support but also helping run events and local services. Mangoola also takes their environmental responsibilities very seriously, they have a rehabilitation program which is second to none and is world leading. Choosing to support the Mangoola Continued Operations project is choosing to support the prosperity of Muswellbrook and the surrounding areas.

This project should be approved as it follows the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EPA Act), unlike other mine expansions which have been approved in the area. As well as being huge supports of the local community and local people.

I support the expansion of the Mangoola mine.
I have visited the mine on several occasions and consider the work that is done to rehabilitate the site the best I have seen.
To see the commitment of the staff to this environmental undertaking is most commendable, also judging from my interaction with their staff it is not simply lip service.
The maintenance of the site is such that very little ( i cannot say none - as I am not an expert) dust is evident around the mine.
We need coal to produce energy which is safe and affordable.
The mine adds to the economy of the area and it is important that mines are allowed to continue to employ people currently and into the intermediate future as there is not viable alternative employment in the region that could absorb the personnel that would be laid off by mine closures.
I believe this to be a model mine in the Hunter Valley and belive this mine should be allowed to continue with the proposed expansion. I also see that the proposed expansion will not impact on surrounding communities or townships.
I thank you for considering this short submission and I reiterate my support for the expansion to be approved.

Over 80% of the approximate 400 people employed by Mangoola live within the surrounding Shires of Muswellbrook, Upper Hunter and Singleton. They actively support the local economy by buying local and utilising the various social venues and thus contribute to the community. It is estimated that of the $153 million payroll from 2017-18 financial year, $129 million went to the overall Hunter Region. The approval of the Mangoola Coal Continued Operations Project would allow this support of the local economy and community to continue.
Mangoola also financially supports the local community in a variety of ventures such as:
Upper Hunter Food and Wine Affair
Max Potential young person development
Wybong Hall support
Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Business Awards
Upper Hunter Education Fund
Home Reading Incentives for Saint Joseph's Primary School Denman
to name a few. Since 2010 Mangoola has provided funding of approximately $650,000 to local community activities.
Mangoola has an impressive and responsible practice of rehabilitation which follows a natural landform design which transforms mining disturbance into gently sloping , very natural contours supporting a wide diversity of vegetation. The plant species are selected based on vegetation types of the surrounding natural landforms to enable return of existing fauna species. Also, in the rehabilitation process nest boxes have been installed, the translocation of orchid and other threatened flora species has been undertaken and habitat trees have been salvaged and reinstalled, all to restore the ecosystem.
The approval of the Mangoola Coal Continued Operations Project will also inject an estimated $121 million into NSW Government coffers in royalties over the life of the project. It will also allow for continued employment for permanent staff and contractors, enabling the local economy and communities to prosper.
