The economic benefits alone should be enough for people to see why this is a good idea. And then take into account the reduction in reusable materials going to landfill and it's a win-win. This should definitely go ahead. Great for the area as well, we need it up there.

Any waste that can be diverted from landfill is a benefit to the environment. If material can be reused, it should be. It is well located in the industrial estate away from dense residential areas.

This facility will bring a significant boost to the local economy, creating a number of jobs on the Central Coast and will represent an important piece of infrastructure. The development represents a substantial investment in waste reduction and sustainability which will provide environmental and economic benefits to the Central Coast and surrounding regions. This facility will be a state-of-the-art facility converting sand, soil and building materials into fully recycled building and landscaping supplies. The products will be of high standard and used mainly in the Central Coast region. The facility will receive, process and store inert materials such as soil, sand and building materials which do not smell and are mainly from building sites. It will not accept any hazardous materials or chemicals such as asbestos, household rubbish or biodegradable waste.

As a land-owner living within the residential suburb of Kariong and commuting to Sydney daily on the M1, I object to the increased traffic, noise pollution, air pollution and resulting decrease in my property value.

Such a development should occur away from rapidly growing and pristine coastal residential areas such as the Central Coast. Instead this land should be reserved for future rural, residential or conservation purposes. This proposal represents short-term profit at the cost of medium and long term effective future town planning. It will also negatively impact the attractiveness of the Central Coast region which will be perceived as Sydney's garbage tip.

I support this development because we could do with a decent place to take our concrete, brick and tile to be reused for other purposes. There's no use sending recyclable material to landfill, not only for the environmental reasons, but because the products you can make out of it are highly sought after by builders, plumbers and other industries. It's in a good location just off the freeway, so it will be nice and convenient for businesses on the Central Coast, and it's far away enough from the township to not cause any noise or dust issues. The crushing being done indoors is extremely considerate as I've not heard of any other facility taking this much care not to make a disturbance. We need the jobs here as well. Fully in support of this development.

There really isn't a bad thing that can be said about this development. It's a recycling facility in an existing industrial area which is creating jobs and helping the environment. Good all round.

I object to the amended state significant development application Kariong Sand and Soil Supplies Facility (SSD-8660).
My home is close to the proposed development and I believe the facility poses a great risk to the health and wellbeing of myself and those in my household. This development is way to close to residential property. It is dangerous waste. Cancer causing waste; not to mention the detriment to the respiratory systems of those close to it whether they are in good health or have underlying conditions. I believe that the upgrades you propose do not address the real concerns that residents have about this facility.
• The facility will pose a threat to both our physical and mental health.
• The facility is way too close to our homes.
• The facility will create increased risk to our local roads by way of hundreds of trucks.
• The facility will impact on the value of our properties as news of this development has travelled far and wide, turning Somersby into a dumping ground instead of a an area worth visiting.
• The facility will affect our water tanks by way of dust.
• The facility will affect our general quality of life in Somersby.
• The facility will cause destruction of local wildlife (birds, owls, wallabies & possums) their habitats & food source, including 1.5 hectares of the endangered Eastern Pygmy-Possum habitat.
• Offensive smell caused by stockpiling of industrial waste.
• DEADLY Silicosis dust in the air affecting schools, families & businesses.

• The facility will represent an important piece of infrastructure to address the massive gap that we currently have on the Central Coast
• The importance of recycling materials should be a top priority and a facility that can help with this on our Central Coast is surely a bonus
• To have a facility that is going to use recycling over land fill is yet another massive bonus
• The jobs provided to dozens of business’s who between them employ hundreds of workers will be invaluable to the Central Coast – particularly in these times of massive unemployment figures which will in turn give a massive financial boost to the entire Central Coast
• At least 20 new direct jobs will be created, providing valuable skilled jobs for the Central Coast
• This is a great project and one that surely will go ahead for the benefit of the Central Coast

Hi, There is a need for recycling suppliers in the central coast region. The Davis family have been in the recycling industry for many years and have a good reputation. From the concept plans this proposed facility looks state of the art and will be good for the community through employment, good for the enviroment because of the reduction of waste going into landfill sites and good for the economy because of cost effective nature of recycled products and good for local customers (tradies and landscapers) as they have an alernative to using non-recycled materials.

My reasons for supporting the proposal are as follows;
It will be creating local jobs for the community.
Boost the local economy by supporting the local shops.
Hopefully divert waste from landfill, prevent illegal dumping in the area and support a sustainable Central Coast.
Helping the government achieve its recycling targets.

Dear Sir/Madame,

Re: Support for Jobs and Recycling at Kariong Sand and Soil Supplies Facility

We support this project and cannot understand why this would not be approved. The drivers for employment and recycling are at the forefront of not only all Australian parliamentary agendas but the local requirement for jobs and recycling facilities in the Central Coast region has never been in such demand. Our business operates from the same heavy industrial zone that this site is within and relies on businesses such as Kariong Sand & Soil supplies and other similar recycles in the area for business growth. This proposed business not only complements the existing materials processing businesses (of which there are many) in the same Somersby Industrial Estate but also generates much needed skilled and non skilled jobs in this area particularly at this time of COVID-19 when any new business opening should be celebrated. We hope that the department will consider the quality and quantity of the support for this project, we welcome the opportunity to outline the positives for our individual business and to note the negative impact on our business if this and future projects are not permitted to setup in this already industrial zoned area. Attracting these projects to the Central Coast is also an absolute priority for the local community, job creation should be central to this decision and the Kariong Sand and Soil Supplies business are very proven and credible operator.

Best Regards,

My reasons for supporting this project are: creating local jobs, boost to local economy, a need for landscaping materials on the Central Coast, a need to recycle building materials on the Central Coast, a sustainable vision for the Central Coast, diverting waste from landfill.
