Goulburn Poultry Processing Mixed Use Development

I object to the slaughter as we live at the end of Grafton Street on the grounds of:
Unbearable stench of death
Noise of birds being slaughtered
Noise of trucks reversing, loading/unloading 24/7
The noise of workers coming to and departing work 24/7
The environmental flow of water usage required to run the plant in a drought
The environmental damage to our water system
The inevitable waste management problems
Minimal impact to employment as most people will be truck drivers from out of town
Damage to the road entering Goulburn due to increased volumes of traffic

This development is an obscene proposal for the massive industrial killing of chickens, causing unimaginable individual suffering on top of the miserable lives that they have already had to endure.
From dim ammonia filled sheds, they will be crammed into crates, denied food and water as is common in farm practice, probably subject to rough handling, and already in pain from their overweight bodies.
They will then be transported miles to this facility where they will be subject to cruel treatment by abattoir workers with no respect for them, given the vile prospect of ‘processing’ 12000 birds an hour or a million birds per week.
At this speed there can be no care for welfare.
There is not even a guarantee of a quick death.
The blind acceptance of such loathsome industrialized killing is so pervasive, that even a childcare centre is proposed to be built in the plans for the site.
Factory farming and processing of animals is under public scrutiny for its effect on the environment. This includes:
a) The use of water resources in a land subject to drought.
b) The disposal of polluting waste products and industrial chemicals.
c) The provision of a product which has had to use scarce agricultural resources to provide feed for the animals.
d) The provision of a product which has been contaminated by antibiotics due to farm management practice, contributing to widespread bacterial resistance in the community.
The proposal is sickening and repugnant.
