Cricket NSW Development: Application number SSD-10354
To whom it may concern,
The NSW Combined Independent Schools ( NSW CIS) strongly supports the Community and Cricket Centre of Excellence at Sydney Olympic Park.
The new State of the Art development will have a strong community focus with the multi-lane indoor centre available to school groups. This will be fantastic for trials and training.
The location of the centre at Sydney Olympic Park is the demographic centre of Sydney, making it more accessible to our many schools in Sydney’s Western Suburbs. In fact it is a easier location to get to for schools from nearly all metropolitan and country areas compared with the other current venues available
Cricket is an important part of our school sports program and significant driver over summer to encourage our students to stay fit and healthy.
Our schools will have the opportunity to enhance our students’ skills and their interest in sport thanks to this new centre.
This is particularly so for the rapidly growing number of our female students showing an interest in cricket. WBBL increased the number of trialists for our girls by double in one year
That interest could be enhanced with the opportunity train alongside some of the best male and female cricketers in NSW and Australia.
NSW Combined Independent Schools commend this development.

To whomever it may concern,

The Sydney Sixers Big Bash League club is writing to support the major Cricket and Community Centre for Cricket NSW at Olympic Park.
The Sixers Men’s and Women’s teams provide two of six professional teams administered by Cricket NSW and we urgently require modern high-performance facilities to attract, retain and train our talented athletes.
With an increase from two to six professional teams over the past decade, Cricket NSW had already outgrown its facilities at Moore Park adjacent to the SCG before they were demolished as part of the Sydney Football Stadium redevelopment.
The Women’s Big Bash League and Men’s Big Bash is a high quality, highly successful competition which showcases some of the best talent in Australia and from, around the world.
Unfortunately, our lack of quality facilities means that out elite athletes can become nomads, using a variety of other training facilities of varying quality which are not administered by Cricket NSW.
The new centre at Olympic Park will not only provide our best athletes with elite training facilities to further improve the standing of the game in NSW, it will also give our academy players and all those coming through the best opportunity to improve and develop as cricketers.
Importantly, the new facility will also give Cricket NSW the opportunity to run significant community events so children chasing their dream can be further inspired by coaching and encouragement from some of the best players in the country.
The Sydney Sixers commend this development as the vital foundation for cricket’s future in NSW.

Cricket NSW Olympic Park Development
To whom it may concern,
The Sydney Thunder Big Bash League club is writing to support the Cricket NSW development at Wilson Park in the Olympic Park precinct.
The Thunder Men’s and Women’s teams have become an intrinsic part of the sporting fabric in NSW over the past decade yet Sydney Thunder as a club still doesn’t have a base to call home.
While the Sydney Showgrounds has proved a good playing arena for our members and fans to watch our men’s team, the club has never had a firm foothold as a permanent fixture in the heart of greater Sydney.
We have had a variety of temporary offices and our players, which include some of the best from Australia and around the world, have been forced to train at a number of venues offering different levels of facilities.
It will also give greater opportunities to our academy players, including our indigenous male and female teams, to enhance their stills and trail alongside their heroes.
With most of our fans from The Hills District and Western Sydney, Olympic Park is the ideal location for a State of the Art facility.
It will also allow us to contribute even more at community level, which has become our Thunder Nation.
The Thunder Nation Cup draws teams from a diverse range of community groups. The new facility will help us to stage community events like this with more certainty in the future.
We believe the new development will be a vital part of NSW sporting infrastructure for decades to come.

Cricket NSW Development at Sydney Olympic Park
To whom it may concern,
As NSW Breakers captain I write on behalf of our female players welcoming the new cricket complex planned for Olympic Park as an important part of developing women’s cricket.
Women’s cricket has taken off in recent years, with extra demands on players now the game has become fully professional.
A new high performance centre will better enable players to enhance this professionalism and give future generations the opportunity to be their best.
So much has happened with women and girls cricket since I began playing the game as a junior amongst the boys.
It wasn’t so long ago that girls didn’t have many options other than playing with the boys!
It is an exciting time to be a female cricketer, being part of an amazing journey which has seen girls only teams explode, the Women’s Big Bash League grab the consciousness of the next generation and the opportunity to make cricket a career not just a hobby.
There are opportunities for talented young sportswomen to live out their dreams as professional cricketers.
With that dream comes the need for facilities which can develop and enhance them to a skill and physical level which will allow them to perform as professional cricketers in an ever more demanding environment.
Cricket in NSW desperately needs the facilities to make this happen.
I commend this development on behalf of the current and future generations of female cricketers.

This submission is on behalf of the NSW/ACT Aboriginal Cricket Advisory Committee (ACAC) chaired by Mark Ella whose email is [email protected]. The committee is responsible for advising and guiding Cricket NSW regarding the challenges and restrictions that face Aboriginal people wanting to participate in cricket. The ACAC fully support this project and the benefits that it will provide to elite and regular participants in our game. We see that having a home for Cricket at Wilson Park and the significance the area has for the local Aboriginal population as a great advantage to increase participation within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The Cricket NSW High Performance project will provide a world class facility for all players across NSW to be the best they can be. This facility will mean that Cricket NSW will be more centrally located and the facility will be utilised by High Performance and Club Cricketers alike.
The NSW/ACT ACAC also see this project as vitally important for the continued development of the Indigenous Cricket pathway within NSW and the ACT. Cricket NSW have a proud history of success at the Cricket Australia National Indigenous Cricket Championships. The Womens team has won 10 titles in a row and the Men's team have won the last 2 titles. Cricket NSW have lead the way in increase participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have developed competitions to assist the best players to be noticed for higher honours. Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes play a series of Indigenous Challenge matches each year as a selection trial for the NSW men's NICC tournament. This year the Sydney Thunder played a Sydney Sixers in Women's match to select the NSW Women's NICC team, the new facility would be able to host these events to further improve the Indigenous Cricket pathway in NSW.
The facility is designed to blend in with the local heritage of the region which is very important for the local Indigenous community.
Kind regards,
Mark Ella

I am the Junior President and Rep Coordinator for Bankstown DCA. We had issues this year not having enough training facilities for turf in our Association.
We would look to utilize this facility to give our Rep under 14s, 15s and 16s some training opportunities on Turf wickets.

We support the development of our State of the Art High Performance and Community Cricket Centre at Wilson Park in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct due to the following:
• The re-location of the facility to Wilson Park will make the facility more centrally located and accessible for ur cricket clubs.
• The facility will raise the skill level for NSW Cricket across all ages and regions, improve the state’s competitiveness and maintain our standing as the leading producer of Australian players.
• The facility will enable the cricket community can come together to improve technical skills for players, coaches and administrators as well as facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between clubs across Sydney and NSW.
• Co-location of the high performance facilities with the facilities available for the broader cricket community will enable junior cricketers to meet, observe and learn from the senior elite players.
• The facility will support the growth of Women’s cricket which is important for our association.

Overall we believe this facility as an important process in the continued growth of cricket in this state not just at elite but also community.

The Cricket NSW Centre of Excellence is a well overdue project that will see the continued growth and development of cricket in NSW, not just Sydney.

To have all administration and training facilities in the one area is of great benefit and will enable both City and Country cricket administrators, coaches and players to meet and share ideas.

Cricket NSW Development at Sydney Olympic Park
To whom it may concern,
As captain of the NSW Blues I write on behalf of the NSW Blues male players to express our support for the new High Performance Cricket Centre being proposed for Olympic Park.
Elite cricket is so competitive that a quality high performance environment enhances the chances of every athlete to perform at their best.
Training facilities for NSW teams have been an issue for some time. It is now critical following the demolition of our Moore Park Centre next to the SCG.
The players have been briefed on what is proposed as part of the Olympic Park development and we are excited at what has been planned.
Modern gym and medical facilities will combine with an expansive indoor centre also available for community use.
It will also be the first time in a generation the players will have a field to practice on.
Central to the development is the large number of outdoor turf practice pitches which will be available.
Players are currently forced to train at a variety of different facilities right across Sydney including Hurstville, Drummoyne, Blacktown, the Sydney Showgrounds, ANZ Stadium and the SCG.
Cricket NSW does not control the preparation of pitches at any of these locations and as a result the way they play can vary greatly, making for disjointed training.
The new facility will be able to have practice wickets ready at any time of year to a consistent standard allowing all our players to train as they would play.
This is not only important for the current group of players but emerging male and female cricketers for generations to come.

The construction of the centre of excellence at Wilson Park will allow for a more central location for the greater Sydney region. The facility will privde a state of the art facility which will raise the skill level for Cricket NSNW across all ages, male and female.

Co location of high performance facilities with the other facilities contained in the master plan will unify Cricket NSW at one place and provide a higher prospect of learnign and development across all groups.

NSW Cricket Olympic Park Development: Application number SSD-10354
To whom it may concern,
The Blind Cricket NSW is delighted to support the new NSW Cricket Centre being proposed for Olympic Park.
We aim to encourage children and adults with vision impairment to develop healthy and active lifestyles.
The more facilities we have to encourage children vision impairment to play sport the more beneficial it will be to our community as a whole.
This new cricket facility offers an exciting opportunity for all cricketers, regardless of ability to be able to follow their dreams.
It will compliment playing outdoor matches with modern indoor facilities which can be used in all weather and after hours.
They may also have the opportunity to train with and be coached by elite mate and female players, improving their skills and offering a greater attachment to sport. It would be used the Blind cricketers for training for the National Cricket Inclusion Championships.
Blind Cricket NSW believes this development will have a beneficial impact on many of our young people and offer an elite and community centre to develop their skills.
Kind regards,
Jason Stubbs

I support the submission lodged by the Newington Gunner Soccer Club and request the Department of Planning implement all the key actions requested in the submission. In particular, I request that:

1. Further consultation be undertaken with the club and residents of Newington more broadly.
2. The club be given access to train on one weeknight and play some games on Saturday mornings at the new facility once it is built, during the cricket off season.
3. The Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) be required to deliver the new sporting fields they said would be delivered when their Masterplan was approved to allow all the new tall buildings to be built in Sydney Olympic Park.

The justification for implementing these key actions is detailed in the Submission lodged on behalf of the Newington Gunners.

Thank you

As an affiliate to Cricket NSW, Cricket ACT shares a common underlying core purpose of uniting and inspiring Australians to love cricket. Cricket is a part of the fabric of an Australian summer which has been the case over the last two centuries and is sure to continue into the future as the sports evolves and captivates new Australian audiences.

Cricket NSW supports and provides service to more cricketers than any other jurisdiction in the country including cricketers from the ACT. Cricket ACT and Cricket NSW share a long standing agreement that supports the pathway of talented male, female, Indigenous and All Abilities cricketers from the ACT and surrounding region. A majority of these programs involve pathway squads assembling in Sydney for training, camps, matches and various other program related activities. Unfortunately, as infrastructure and training facilities has expanded throughout the country within both cricket and other sports, Cricket NSW has fallen behind in being able to support the training needs of the expanding and various professional and pathway programs through appropriate facilities.

The Wilson Park development at Olympic Park is long overdue in providing the facilities that support Cricket NSW, and hence Cricket ACT as an affiliate, to appropriately accommodate for the needs of the increased professionalism of the sport that relies on professional pathway programs that cater for player development. The facility will further support Cricket NSW's and Cricket ACT's mission to unite and inspiring Australians to love cricket by providing young male and female players from around the state who show promise the opportunity to attend specialised coaching sessions training alongside their professional heroes. It will also provide a centre for thousands of club and community users all year round, including community clubs from the ACT and surrounding regions.

We regard this development as an integral part of NSW sporting infrastructure and fully support the project.

On behalf of St George cricket I would like to formally support this project, we at St George support the development of all cricketers and all regions of NSW to contnue to grow the game. We have had hundreds of young cricketers from our association hone thier skills with the Cricket NSW development pathways at the old facility at the SCG and we support the new facility at Wilson Park so that a new generation of St George cricketers have the best facilities available to them to succeed.

• The re-location of the facility to Wilson Park will make the facility more centrally located and accessible for cricket clubs, particularly in growth areas like Western Sydney.
• The facility will raise the skill level for NSW Cricket across all ages and regions, improve the state’s competitiveness and maintain our standing as the leading producer of Australian players.
• The facility will provide a state of the art facility where the cricket community can come together to improve technical skills for players, coaches and administrators as well as facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing between clubs across Sydney and NSW.
• Co-location of the high performance facilities with the facilities available for the broader cricket community will enable junior cricketers to meet, observe and learn from the senior elite players.
• The facility will support the growth of Women’s cricket through providing an ICC standard field for women’s matches.
• The stand-alone facility will raise the profile of the sport
• Olympic Park is the home of sport in NSW and the facility will add to the range of sporting facilities and events
