I support the #6BF reline as I believe steelmaking is an important part of Australia's future. The BHP Steelworks gave me a start in my career and I worked there for 14 years, I want that same opportunity to be afforded to future generations and this project will support that.

This project is of significant importance and positive benefit to the community. The steelworks has been a pillar of the community for many years and relies on this project to continue as a business in the Illawarra for the future, with significant employment and flow on benefits.

Australia needs to secure its future steel supply and continue manufacturing in Australia. This will also create many jobs for Australians and support Australia's future properity. Current world events have shown that the world global supply chain can easily be disrupted. By continuing with steel production in Australia, we are securing Australia's future.

Bluescope steel is one of few steel manufacturers in the world that has a responsible steel accreditation. They provide some of the Cleanest and safest steel in the world and it would be a huge benefit to all of Australian to maintain a strong steel manufacturing capability. As a country we need to boost out manufacturing capability and domestic steel production sets the foundation to expand as a nation. Steel works is the heart of the Illawarra and many other industries and businesses would suffer if we don't continue to produce iron locally.

Steel making is one of the most important infrastructures in our country.
It helps with economy, strategic situation in the world,
it helps in local community by creating jobs and keeping local and small businesses running.
Tens of thousands of people direct and indirect relying on steel making.
It helps construction industry and helps with affordable houses.
It helps in defence force and reduces dependency on other countries.
The existing blast Furness which keeps all the downstream ecosystem up and running, is coming to end of its life. If the proposed project for relining blast furnace 6 doesn’t go ahead, whole country will be in crises.
This is a serious matter, tens of thousands of our people will be out of job at once. Even banks will be affected badly as they will not be able to claim thousands of mortgages.
It is not only the economy aspect, too many people out of job creates a devastating social and mental disaster in our society.

People who are against this project must wake up and see the reality of the existing world. The climate problem didn’t happen overnight, we, humankind, created this problem in centuries and now by revolutionary, radical, irresponsible solutions not only we will not solve the problem but also, we will make it too far worse.
Please be realistic and help this project to go ahead and make sure they do their best to reduce the impact of steel making on environment.

Investment from BlueScope in the project to reline No. 6 Blast Furnace is great news and will support the community through the creation of jobs and an injection of expenditure in the local community. This significant investment is critical for the future of the steel industry in the Illawarra and Australia and will be done with a responsible and sustainable approach with significant focus on environmental improvement.

Green steel technology is still not to a point where it can be used at Port Kembla. The technology needs to be developed for the steel process and equipment at port kembla. Approving the 6BF reline project allows steel manufacturing to continue while the green steel technology develops so it can be eventually used for PKSW.
I support the project at it guarantees steel making in the illawarra for the near future and allows bluescope the time to develop green steel technology for their blast furnace. It would be devastating if steel making in the illawarra ceased, costing thousands of jobs and huge financial impacts to the area.

BlueScope Co2 intensity is in the lowest 1/3 in the world and a supporter of local jobs, industry, community. This project will result in an improvement in global CO2 emissions - without it a high emitting international facility will produce the same volume of steel with more emissions per tonne of steel..

As an engineer and someone familiar with the level of environmental and in particular carbon reduction effort being put into this project I am fully supportive of the Blast Furnace reline. Given the impact of COVID over the past 2 years and the level of geo-political instability the need to have sovereign steel making capacity has only become stronger. I am hopeful that projects like this strengthen Australia's manufacturing capability into the future. As for the impact to the Illawarra, the jobs and level of technology involved in running and maintaining a modern integrated steel plant can only benefit the local region. This includes the existing and future benefits to UoW and TAFE working with BSL to provide skills that are applied practically to local industry.

This project is a vital step to ensure the economic continuation of reliable iron and steelmaking for flat products in Australia, to support jobs in the Australian economy, and to allow for an eventual transition to net zero steelmaking.

I support the project to reline the number 6 blast furnace at the Port Kembla steelworks.

In the current international climate, with war in Ukraine and with China are becoming increasingly antagonistic, it is imperative that Australia maintains the ability to manufacture key products. The ability to manufacture steel is critical to our national security.

The Port Kembla steelworks is woven into the cultural and historical fabric of the Illawarra area. The re-line of the Number 6 blast furnace will provide additional jobs during planning and construction, and will underpin future employment in the region. BlueScope steel also has a long track record of supporting local suppliers and subcontractors.

From my observations, it appears BlueScope Steel is fully committed to wide range of environmental improvements. They put a lot of effort into minimizing visual and noise pollution, as well as airborne and waterborne emissions, and are moving towards energy efficiency wherever possible.

This project has my support.

My job and the jobs of many of my colleagues at BlueScope directly depend on this project being approved. My PhD and my entire working career have been focused on the production of iron by the blast furnace route. In my professional opinion, there is no viable commercial alternative to this 6BF project that will allow continued manufacturing of steel at the Port Kembla site. If the project is not approved, then NSW and Australia will lose the capability for production of high quality flat steel (sheet and plate steel), and many manufacturing jobs including my own and all of my BlueScope colleagues will be lost.
