Rawdon Island Bridge Repair Stage 2 - Species Impact Statement

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council

Environmental assessment for the bridge rehabilitation works identified a significant population of vulnerable microbats (Southern Myotis: Myotis macropus) living within Pier 6 bridge joint. Stage 1 of the Project was approved excluding works in close proximity to this location with intensive behavioural monitoring in place to limit impacts during the works. The project has been progressing since October 2021 resulting in re-opening for heavy vehicles in December 2021, and completion of all underwater repairs in February 2022.Stage 2 involves bridge repairs in close proximity to Pier 6 utilising exclusion techniques to temporarily relocate the microbats to allow bridge repairs to be completed. Environmental assessment and management plans have been prepared in accordance with legislative requirements and input from the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE).
