Guidelines for Erosion and Sediment Control on Building Sites

We exhibited updated guidelines for erosion and sediment control on building sites from 22 September to 29 October 2023. The updated guidelines will help small-scale builders, certifiers, stormwater specialists and anyone working on construction sites that are less than 2,500m2 understand how to prevent erosion and sediment pollution and protect our waterways.

The updated guidelines outline how to prepare an erosion and sediment control plan, which may be a requirement of your conditions of development consent. Other updates include more detailed guidance on understanding your site and important erosion and sediment control practices.

When finalised, these guidelines will be referred to in the standard conditions of development consent (which councils can also access in the Planning Portal).

We sought feedback on these guidelines to ensure they are fit for purpose and easy to understand. Feedback received will inform the final guidelines, ensuring they include necessary information  to effectively protect our waterways from the impacts of erosion and sediment pollution.
