Shoalhaven Hospital redevelopment
The NSW Government is considering a proposal for a $438 million redevelopment of the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
The proposal involves the expansion of the existing Shoalhaven hospital site onto the adjoining Nowra Park site, to allow for a new Acute Services Building, as well as facilities for cardiology, mental health and operating theatres, and a new emergency department.
The department is exhibiting an explanation of intended effect (EIE) for a proposed site-specific State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP) to rezone the Nowra Park site to facilitate the future expansion of the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
The Nowra Park site is currently zoned RE1 – Public Recreation and SP2 – Educational Establishment under the Shoalhaven Local Environment Plan 2014 (SLEP). A hospital is prohibited under RE1 zoning.
The EIE proposes to amend the SLEP via a site-specific SEPP to rezone the site to SP2 Health Services Facility and facilitate the expansion of the hospital onto Nowra Park. It also proposes to zone the site as SP2 Educational Establishment, to facilitate the relocation of an existing child care centre.
Health Infrastructure NSW has also lodged a State Significant Development application for the construction of a seven-story hospital building and associated works on the site. You can have your say on the Shoalhaven Hospital Redevelopment application.
