This refurbishment of the Entertainment Centre could have significant benefits to the general community but it should not progress by raiding the funds of sporting facilities in the western areas of the Sutherland Shire. The western area of the Sutherland Shire has endured massive traffic use by heavy garbage trucks for 50 years and the location of one of Sydney's major waste / tipping sites. The reward for the western area of the Shire for enduring this imposition to it's area is a suite of sporting facilities, including a golf course, suitable for development on reclaimed land. The golf course is currently operating with enormous success seeing unprecedented mid week usage with fully booked competition events. The funding for these facilities was primarily provided by Waste Services including funds of 15.8million provided by Waste Services which are being used by the Sutherland Shire Council to substantially fund the Entertainment Centre refurbishment. The golf course is not only used by the residents of the western area of the Shire but the golfers come from all over the Shire. Although the course is complete the support facilities are temporary with no plans from the Council to provide permanent facilities and an engineered carpark. The refurbishment of the Entertainment Centre should not progress until a plan for the provision of permanent facilities for the Ridge Golf Course and the adjacent sporting facilities is finalized.
