We object to the Mount Pleasant Modification 3 proposal and seek that the Department of Planning and Environment either reject this proposal or require a comprehensive environmental impact assessment to be undertaken to reflect today's environmental standards, government policies and community expectations.

We are concerned with the negative effects mining is having, and that this mine will have, on our community and environment.

No mining has taken place on this site since the DA was granted in 1999 which is 18 years ago. It is clear that the environmental impacts and obligations will have changed significantly in that time. Also, since 1999 new mines have opened and expanded in the area such as Mangoola, Bengalla and Mt Arthur. The cumulative impacts of all these changes are significant and most concerning.

If this mine proceeds the operations would result in both noise and air quality exceedences.

We need certainty so we can invest and grow our business with confidence. We employ over 40 people and this mine could have a significant deleterious impact on our business.

After 20 years of inaction it is just wrong to think that this mine could now proceed. The new owners must be required by the NSW Government to reapply for permission to mine on this site and be required to submit a new, comprehensive and contemporary environmental assessment.
The Government needs to end the land use conflict in the Hunter by protecting our land, water and agricultural industries.

Yours sincerely

My family and I live in the Hunter Valley. I am employed by Bengalla Mining Company, where I work as the Medium Term Planning Superintendent. During my time at Bengalla I have been particularly impressed with the company's commitment to supporting the local community and its employees, on this front I believe it to be an industry leader. I object to the Mount Pleasant Coal Mine MOD-3 because it represents a threat to the Bengalla Mining Company's ability to continue operations, as approved, through until 2039. The best result for the region, I believe, is the successful operation of both sites - but not at the expense of Bengalla and its employees. The Mount Pleasant Mine MOD-3 extension (and deferral of rail loop relocation) will impact Bengalla's operations in 2022, leading to serious material impacts by 2025. This represents a great risk to the employees of Bengalla and the broader Muswellbrook community.

The Australian coal industry produces the cleanest coal in the world. It is a fact that the world still needs coal energy, so I am in support of that coal being the cleanest available.
If we do not produce and market clean Australian coal, then inferior coal will be sourced by end-users from other, less-regulated countries. Until the world energy needs are met by fuels other than coal, it is in the interests of all to ensure that the coal that needs to be used is the best and cleanest available. As such, I support the Mt Pleasant Coal Mine Modification 3.

I think Mt Pleasant will be a great asset to the community and the longer it can be mined the better off the community will be as well as Australia as a hole due to the taxes and money made of the mine.

I think that the additional scope of work and extension to the site is very good for the surrounding area as well as the locals. This extension will increase the revenue in the immediate surroundings for local traders. I believe that the work that Thiess are planning to amend the land form design will accommodate the local surroundings to blend in any changes to prove little to no change to the visual aspect of the area.

I am an employee of Bengalla Mining Company and have been fortunate to be employed by Bengalla for nearly .......... In that time, it has provided my family with security that can only come from a strong and reliable company.

I am submitting my objection to the Mt Pleasant - Modification 3 as I am concerned that, if approved, will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant mine to remain in place and cause Bengalla to curtail its operation causing approximately 600 employees to lose their jobs.

I have grown up in Muswellbrook and have seen the positive economic effects that mining has brought to the town. I am fully supportive of mining in the Muswellbrook Shire and welcome new projects however not at the expense of Bengalla mine.

I believe Bengalla is a valued member of the community and provides a positive contribution to the local community. It supports many organisations and events and provides opportunities through its Community Open Day for the community to visit Bengalla mine. It also supports our education system by providing apprenticeships, scholarships, work experience and mentoring to local students.

I am also concerned about the large number of local businesses that will be affected by Bengalla curtailing its operation which will have a detrimental impact on the local community.

The best outcome for Bengalla, Mt Pleasant, Muswellbrook, NSW and Australia is that both mines continue for their full life.

I support the Mount Pleasant project as it has a good sustainable plan to mine Australia's resources ethically. It will greatly benefit the region economically, providing families with a good income/lifestyle balance and also support business directly and indirectly in a positive manner.

Dear Matt,

As a local resident and landholder of the Muswellbrook Shire, I am writing in support of the Mount Pleasant Operations Modification 3.

The final land form design proposed by MACH Energy represents best practice mine planning. The land form is sympathetic to the surrounding natural topography and sets a new standard for land form design in the Hunter Valley. I fully support the proposed ongoing rehabilitation programme with the incorporation of micro- relief features into the landform.

The Mount Pleasant Operation will result in positive long term economic benefits to local communities and will be a major source of employment for the town of Muswellbrook and Aberdeen by providing valuable direct and indirect job opportunities.

Your Sincerely

Peter York

I have worked at Bengalla for .........., my role at Bengalla is ................... I have been involved in the mining industry in the Hunter Valley for the majority of my career ........................ and my extended family work and support the industry also.

During my time at Bengalla I have learned that Bengalla is integral to the success of the local community.

Bengalla supports community and provides jobs to the town. Its a safe and efficient place to work. It has been apart of the community since I can remember.

It has been a stable place of employment for me which has enabled me to support my family.

I have played a number of sports in the community that have been sponsored by Bengalla including my local touch football team. Even in the bad times in the industry Bengalla was always supporting the community. They offer scholarships and support local kids going through study.

Bengalla is a very well regarded member of the Muswellbrook community as Bengalla supports lots of community organisations and events including the Muswellbrook show and Bengalla Mine Open Day where all members of the community are welcome to visit the Bengalla Mine.

I am very concerned that the Mount Pleasant modification if approved will allow the railway line for Mount Pleasant to remain in place and cause Bengalla to curtail its operation causing myself and 600 Bengalla employees to lose their jobs.

I am very concerned about the large number of local businesses that will be affected by Bengalla curtailing its operation which will have a detrimental impact on the local community and my extended family who are supported by the operation.

The best outcome for Bengalla, Mt Pleasant, Muswellbrook, NSW and Australia is that both mines continue for their full life.
