To Whom It May Concern
My name is Karen Williams and I am the owner and Director of United Pastoral Pty Limited trading as Hollydene Estate Wines .
Re: Maxwell Underground Mine (MOD2) – SSD-9526-Mod-2
I am writing to lodge my support for the modification sought by Malabar Resources’ for its Maxwell Underground Project.
This is a sensible modification to an approved project that has been designed so our community can enjoy a much-needed economic boost without negatively impacting other local industries and land uses.
I support Mod-2 because the Maxwell project will deliver important benefits for the local community, including 250 jobs during the construction phase and once operational the mine will generate 350 long-term jobs in addition to many more indirect jobs and stimulus for local businesses.
These benefits will make a substantial long-term difference to the communities in the Upper Hunter and to NSW.
The modification sought by Malabar does not change the underground mining method, nor increase the coal production rate or total coal mined. I understand the benefits of the modification include;
• reduction in capital cost hence reduced project footprint
• better gas management strategies which will assist with the
environment
Our community needs a diverse economy and the Maxwell Underground Project can help make sure our economy prospers for decades to come.
Yours truly,
Karen Williams

I support this project.
I believe the modification is a design optimisation that does not substantially change aspects of the approved project such as the underground mining method, the coal production rate or total coal mined.
I believe the benefits of the modification include;
• a safer working environment for employees
• lower groundwater usage for the life of the mine
• a reduction in the duration of mining beneath Edderton Road public road
• reduction in capital cost and hence potential better profitability and taxation returns
• better gas management strategies including beneficial re-use
The local community needs to maintain a diverse economy and the Maxwell Underground Project can help make sure their economy prospers for decades to come.

I've worked in the mining industry for 30 + years, mining is both essential and needed in the Hunter, there are numerous industries including the one I work in that rely on the coal industry for an income.

My husband and I own several agricultural properties along Bureen Road. See attached rates notice. This mine has already been approved and what the company is seeking is approval for a modification which will improve the mining outcomes from a commercial and environmental viewpoint.
This mine is compatible with the local community and its activities and will provide jobs, economic benefit and activity for the shire.
Please note my husband is a director of Malabar Resources.
