will provide a much-needed boost to the Hunter Valley economy, but more importantly will demonstrate that logical, sustainable projects still have a place in our society. Coal is a valuable resource that provides so many benefits and it is important to continue to display this and ensure the “good coal story” carries on.

I strongly believe that the region requires projects like the Maxwell Coal project to maintain the economy and provide employment, and accordingly I support the project.

I support the project because it will deliver much needed economic benefits to the local community and broader region with little negative impact. Coking coal is a required resource and the royalties that would be generated by this project would assist to fund services and infrastructure in NSW. This is a project where significant efforts have clearly been made to minimise environmental impacts and address community concerns.

I oppose the project for the following reasons:
1. The very large use of water at a time of drought, when the desalination plant has been turned on to supply metropolitan area drinking water. Is the company going to pay for this water?
2. The risk of pollution of water flowing into metropolitan drinking water is real.
The company should be required to pay commercial rates for the cost of supplying con contaminated drinking water should this occur.
3. Environmental damage to streams & wetlands is also real from anticipated subsidence in the company submission.
4. Blue Scope Steel has not to my knowledge confirmed that it would have to close if this extension is rejected.
Surely there are many alternative supplies of coal available.
Blessings

I support the Malabar Project.
This project should be approved without delay because it –
• Addresses the issues raised by objectors in the Drayton South Project assessment, including air quality and visual impact to neighbours
• proposes a timing of construction and operation that will provide excellent employment opportunities and underlying support to the community to offset the significant negative impacts for the Upper Hunter region that will occur when the Liddell Power Station is taken out of service
• Has already demonstrated its commitment to flexible land use and innovation by developing a solar farm installation
• Provides a long term rate, royalty and tax stream to the local, state and federal governments that will help support services and infrastructure for all Australians
• Produces high quality export coal that will deliver improved GHG outcomes for the end users when compared to coal that those users would otherwise source from other countries.
Sincerely
Brett Lewis

As someone who works in HR and therefore supports projects that can increase job opportunities to people in the Region and are projects proposed by responsible and well supported businesses, I support the Maxwell Project.
The project will create 350 new direct local jobs, and many more indirect jobs, helping to deliver a stronger and more prosperous local community for decades to come.
The project will generate significant economic and social benefit for local households, suppliers and the State.
The project should be approved without further delay.
Regards,
Renata Roberts
