Dear Sir,
I object to granting any further extensions to the existing DAs.
Let's get the facts.
My objection to the extension of the DA is based on the fact that any extension of the existing DAs would contribute to the increase in greenhouse gas emissions when the products being mined at Liddell Coal are combusted and hence directly threaten the survival of our civilisation as we know it. Evidence for this fact is not hard to find and I only mention one peace of evidence.
I am sure the Major Projects office has read the recently published IPPC sixth Assessment Report and understand its conclusions which are summarised by the co-chair as follows:
. "The scientific evidence is unequivocal: Climate change is a threat to human wellbeing and the health of the planet," IPCC Working Group II co-chair Hans-Otto Pörtner said.
"Any further delay in concerted global action will miss a brief and rapidly closing window to secure a liveable future."
https://www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg2/downloads/report/IPCC_AR6_WGII_SummaryForPolicymakers.pdf
The report was written by 270 authors and synthesises more than 34,000 pieces of scientific research. And it is approved by 195 governments.
Approval of any extension of the Glencore Coal DA would contribute directly to delay any action being taken to counter climate change.
Therefore rejection of the application is necessary, vital and urgent.
Thanks ,
V Schlusser
