The project is too close to town and the nearby river. The location should be moved further out of town.

I would like to register my concerns over the Gunnedah Waste Facility proposed for Torrens Road within the Gunnedah town limits.
I am horrified that this is being suggested to be built within town limits and so close to a high school site.
I do not want this built in our community but especially not where it is being proposed.
We should not be lumped with the toxic waste of other communities and entities especially Santos.

Please do not allow this to go ahead!!!!

Regards

I write concerning the proposed Gunnedah Waste Facility to be constructed on Lots 1 and 2 DP 122699216 Torrens Rd Gunnedah.
I believe the proposed development is located too near to town, private residences, rural/residential properties and other businesses.
I am greatly concerned regarding the impacts on those nearby in terms of dust, fumes, noise and increased heavy traffic, and even more concerned regarding the possibility of toxic waste contamination of the surrounding air, land and ground water impacting the wider community.
I am concerned that there has been no town meeting to make residents aware of this development and provide the opportunity for concerns to be aired and addressed.
I object to this development on the basis that it has the potential to affect the Gunnedah community’s health and wellbeing – it will most definitely have an adverse impact on those located close to it.

I am writing to object to the Proposed waste facility at Lots 1 & 2 Torrens RD Gunnedah.

I am a Health care worker and strongly object to this proposal
this location is not a reasonable location

1) Increased air pollution, Rural towns healthcare have very limited health resources and I feel an increase in toxic waste will result in further pressure to the already at capasity health care system in the area

2) increase in noise pollution, this will have a negative effect on the locals mental health

3) increased traffic and trucks, effects on mental health and safety

This facility is just simply located too close to residential property and the effects will be detrimental to peoples health and wellbeing

I object to this proposed development because

This is land that is close to business as well as small rural holdings with established houses.

The land is good farming land and should not be trashed and ruined.

In turn the adjoining land not owed by this company will be devalued and adversely affected and their activities will be affected by dust and pollution and traffic.

Please reconsider this project.

This is a Objection to the proposed Gunnedah waste facility

This will have a negative effect on the rural community

1) Nsw should not be responsible for other states waste

2) the location is to close to homes and will be a massive value decrease to all real Esate in the area

3) This location is too close to the river which has already suffered from massive drought and will now be exposed to pollution, this will have a flow on effect to the local agriculture and result in a massive economic loss for farmers and the local economy

The only justification for sending toxic wast 700km from Brisbane and 400km from Sydney is that the citizens of those capital citizens will never tolerate toxic waste nearby. For the same reason I and many other citizens of Gunnedah object on the following grounds.

1. Lack of any local consultation.
2. Health and Safety of local residents, including private dwellings and a High School campus only metres away.
3. Dust pollution including asbestos and other toxic materials.
4. Noise pollution 11+ hours/day, 6 days/week
5. Potential water pollution, especially during times of flood.
6. Traffic implications of 100s of large trucks moving through small streets every day

Please reconsider this development.

Kind regards,

As a concerned citizen, I wish to comment on the absolute lack of community awareness in the lead up to this proposal, the location of which will have a severe impact on the surrounding residents and industries. The local community have not been consulted or kept informed during this process, due to no opportunity for local council input.
The location of the proposed waste facility is less than 2km from the Gunnedah CBD and adjacent to residential properties who rely on tank water for personall consumption, as well as agricultural use for crops and livestock. The position of the facility nearby to floodplains will have a detrimental effect to the surrounding agricultural land in the instance of runoff and soil damage by toxic waste.

You can imagine my concern when I was made aware of the waste facility in Gunnedah and the circumstances of its proposal.

There was a complete lack of consultation with the community who must bear the burden of the facility, the location of which is not remote enough to mitigate the consequences to the surrounding residents and industries. This is, quite frankly, appalling.

The position of the facility nearby to floodplains will have a detrimental effect to the surrounding agricultural land in the instance of runoff and soil damage by toxic waste.

My understanding is that asbestos, lithium batteries and contaminated soil will come from distant cities such as Brisbane, Sydney and Newcastle, whose metropolitan areas do not contain toxic waste facilities within CBD limits. Such a facility should not be placed, firstly, so close to a CBD, or secondly near agricultural and private residential land which is the livelihood of many local residents.

I am writing to you in utter shock to find out that there is a waste facility going ahead in Gunnedah. I am also outrage to understand that this site will be built very close homes where children reside. I have great conserns for the health and wellbeing of these familys, not to mention the impact it will have on the enviroment. I have also learnt that this site is to be built on the Ag plot. I ask has the local Gunnedah Council members given in to money before they meet the need of the people. These are the people who work and strive hard to keep Gunnedah going, the people who come together when there is a crisit and now their own council doesn't even have there own backs or best intrest at heart. Have people become miss com-placement when it comes to the world we live in. I ask you Please!! dont go a head with this project it will do more harm then good.

Thank you

The development of this sort of waste processing facility is inappropriate for a number of reasons:
- It reduces the pressure on Sydney based authorities and residents to address the real issue about the growth in waste to be disposed which is the need to reduce, reuse, recycle and makes it less likely that the real reasons for the increase in waste will be addressed.
- Dumping city rubbish in country areas reduces the local amenity in those areas.
- Despite stating that the nearest R5 zoned land is 1.5km away the EIS does not seem to address the possible impacts on an acknowledged rral dwelling less than 500m to the north-east.
- Expert testimony to the recent IPC hearings related to the Narrabri Gas Project raised concerns about the nature and disposal of the contaminated salts and brine produced. There is no significant attempt to address the issues of disposal of contaminated salts, although this appears to be a possible waste product that will access the plant.
- A site environmental management plan has not been developed but rather is proposed following approval. This puts the cart before the horse.

Waste facilities release many air pollutants, including nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxides, particulate matter, lead, mercury, dioxins and furans. These substances are known to have serious public health effects, from increased cancer risk to respiratory illness, cardiac disease and reproductive, developmental and neurological problems. According to recent figures from the waste industry, incinerator plants emit more sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide per unit of electricity generated than what power plants are burning.

Whitehaven Coal, having caused expensive damage to Narrabri shire landfill by disposing of hazardous waste unlawfully, the clean up of which is continuing nearly 2 years later, has now struck a deal with Mackellar Excavations Waste Co. which will ensure lesser scrutiny of their waste disposal. Will this obvious fact be ignored by the NSW Government?

This facility is so close to the town and why pick the location of Gunnedah, the so-called Koala Capitol of NSW?

This will increase pollutants and increase road hazards for a koala population in serious decline when koalas in NSW face extinction by 2050, without urgent government intervention. Is this population to be ignored?

The Gunnedah Koala Population Plan Nov. 2016 warns of the impacts of continued fencing and the impacts of road kills and the already obvious evidence noted of obvious koala population decline in Gunnedah. The koala is a landscape species that cannot continually have its habitat fragmented. The fact is they walk kilometres and need to cross roads to bred and find suitable habitat. https://www.redlandcitybulletin.com.au/story/6934274/vaccine-potential-game-changer-for-declining-koala-population/

The increased road activity from the proposed waste facility will only cause more road kills.

The population decline in this regional koala population in NSW has made it difficult to find 60 candidates for a new chlamydia vaccine trial, using a vaccine designed by Queensland scientist Peter Timms. This was reported in September 2020, along with evidence that the local population is ageing. So do we just continue on ignoring facts that our human environmental impacts enable polluting industries to impact the survival of an actual living breathing iconic species?

This project should not be located in Gunnedah. If it is to proceed find a location that has no koala populations or habitat.

The decisions made by the NSW DPIE in recent years completely ignore the impacts on our iconic marsupial. e.g. Quarry expansion in Port Stephens, Lendlease development at Campbelltown, where our only disease-free colony lives.

It is time to draw a line in the sand. Again, l object to this waste facility with regard to the hazardous pollutants that will impact human and wildlife lives. l object to the dust and noise pollution and the impacts on the local koala population from continued impacts from road kills and the impacts that disturb its ability to thrive and disperse. The evidence that this population is in decline has been reported by scientists and in the Gunnedah Local Koala Conservation Plan.
