Glendell Mine currently make a significant contribution to the communities in which they operate. A high percentage of the Glendell Workforce are live with in the Local areas, Glendell provides financial support for funding and grants for various local communities, Glendell support local businesses with many local business engaged for their services and goods.
This project should go ahead as Glendell will be able to employ more people, create work/jobs for local businesses along with providing net benefit in the lower hunter , NSW and royalty revenue stream flowing to the NSW Government.
Glendell is also very committed to ensuring the production creates minimal impact to the environment, with high standards in rehabilitation and water management.

Australia contains 1% of the worlds population, but we are contributing to 1.3% of the worlds carbon emissions. If this proposal goes through it will greatly contribute to the worlds carbon emissions. We need stop projects that are expanding coal which is decreasing in value and world usage. We need to focus on renewable energy that will provide jobs when coal is gone. With the ongoing drought and continued increase in global temperatures, now is the time to say no to coal mine expansion.

Thank you.

I object to the proposed extension of operations for this mine due to its impact on climate change. Appendix 28 refers to greenhouse gas emissions of 220,424,000t CO2. It comments ‘The Project will contribute to global emissions, however, the extent to which global emissions and atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases have a demonstrable impact on climate change will be largely driven by the global response to reducing total global emissions which includes all major emission sources and sinks.’ In reference to the use of the phrase ‘ demonstrable impact’ I refer to the ongoing bushfires. The scientists predicted more extreme weather events and more severe fires. We are already seeing the impacts . In the interests of future generations I request the government review of this proposed continuation and extension considers the listed greenhouse gas emissions.
I am aware that there is a proposed legislation that will prevent consideration of downstream effects in future proposals and in the interests of future generations I, incidentally, register my objection to that proposed change as well . Every decision we make from now on must be viewed with the future wellbeing of our planet in mind.

I support Glendell continued operations because of the ongoing employment opportunity for locals from singleton, Maitland and Muswellbrook. Along with on going funding to community groups from Glendell. Glendell also employs local contractors and support services keeping money in our local communities. Glendell continued operations will contribute royalties to the NSW government which help fund ongoing infrastructure improvements in NSW.

In light of the devastating bushfires in Australia this summer that have been predicted by scientists for decades as a result of our negligence to sufficiently manage climate change it would seem ludicrous to willingly continue to expand the fossil fuel industry which is one of the main contributors to devastating global heating. To support such projects is to support an increasingly dangerous environment for ourselves and our children. We need to start rolling back our fossil fuel industry in favour of supporting renewable energy system.

I write in support of the Glendell Continued Operations Project.
The Project will provide ongoing employment opportunities for the existing workforce and substantial revenue to local, regional and state economies.
The development is substantially a continuation of existing operations in the area which in turn has been the site of mining and power generation for some fifty years. The Project is a brownfield development that makes effective use of existing infrastructure to maximise economic use of the state's coal resource.
The Project has minimal impact on the surrounding community and would be moving away from the village of Camberwell and affect no other residents.
The project will be managed to same high environmental standards as the existing operation and the rehabilitation of which has been recognised as industry best practice.
I can confirm the proposal to relocate the Ravensworth Homestead to Broke has enthusiastic support in that village.
Finally I have seen first hand the high professional standards to which Glencore manage their operations.

I strongly object to any further extension or development of mines in Australia which will contribute to our global carbon emissions , and further destroy our environment. So-called downstream carbon emissions must be included in calculations of Australia's carbon output. Appendix 28 refers to greenhouse gas emissions of 220,424,000t CO2. It comments ‘The Project will contribute to global emissions, however, the extent to which global emissions and atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases have a demonstrable impact on climate change will be largely driven by the global response to reducing total global emissions which includes all major emission sources and sinks.’ We have a global and national responsibility to meet our emissions targets - which we are not going to do by increasing mining. In fact we need to rapidly transition to zero emissions as soon a possible.
Genuine calculation of Australia's emissions must now also add the carbon released from our massive bushfires - fires which are larger and more prolonged and destructive due to a suite of climate change effects on our environment. Decades of denial about the climate change science has delayed our government taking meaningful action to protect land, water and air quality, and most importantly from shutting down fossil fuel extraction and export . We are now reaping the rewards of this denial - and the international community is watching our government to see its response to these massive fires. We, and they, expect more than just money thrown at fire fighting and rebuilding - but REAL action to stop contributing to climate change as the only way to ensure a future safer for our global population. This means reducing carbon emissions to zero as soon as possible.
Now is not the time to be growing our fossil fuel industry. It is a false and frankly deceptive economic argument put to the Australian people that this is in our best interests. It it time to stop this economic and environmental madness and to invest heavily and rapidly in growing other energy industries. So I strongly urge that this extension of mining operation is rejected . No more mines. No mining extensions.

I object to this project on the grounds that it will be both economically unsound for the region and morally abhorrent to continue to mine coal in the face of our current situation of devastating bushfires.

I refer to expert evidence summarised by the Australian Climate Council:
https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/unburnable-carbon-why-we-need-to-leave-fossil-fuels-in-the-ground-1/
And very well established scientific evidence for the relationship between global temperature increase and increased bush fire hazard:
https://www.srs.fs.fed.us/pubs/ja/2010/ja_2010_liu_001.pdf I emphasise this particular research article was published 10 years ago, meaning that the information has been available for planning and preparation but has been ignored to the detriment of our nation in this horrid fire season.
Finally, the world’s economists and business leaders are well aware of how fiscally foolish it would be to continue reliance on fossil fuels, as is attested to in the linked article in fines magazine: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffmcmahon/2019/07/03/4-reasons-renewables-will-continue-to-dominate-fossil-fuels/ “4 Economic Reasons Renewables Will Dominate Fossil Fuels”

I am supporting this proposal for I believe it will increase jobs in the area, particularly as other coal mines are closing within close proximity. I believe the royalties from this site will also help sustain the NSW economy over the life of mine, particularly as we will also see a decrease in royalties as mines begin to close as they are coming to the end of mine life.
The location of the mine is situated between old, established mines and I think operations will have minimum impact on the local community in terms of noise and dust as the mine is moving away from the closest township, Camberwell.
I have found Glencore to be very transparent when dealing with the local community and believe, as an operator, they will and have done what is reasonably possible to minimise the impact this will have on local environment.

Overall Glendell consistently comply with regulations in regards the environment re; dust & noise. Visually from the highway rarely do you see any activities from the mine site.
It will bring economic growth to the area by keeping staff employed.
The area already has mining activity so it makes sense to keep it in the same area.

I vehemently object to this project going ahead, given the serious nature of world wide climate change which has been proven to be connected to and enhanced by coal emissions, so on the basis of this scientific argument, l object to the planned expansion of this mine on the basis that it is reckless and shows an inherent disregard for duty of care to the citizens of the world who will be directly impacted by it.

Many communities and families depend on this project being approved. If this project is rejected 690 employees and their families will suffer, these are real people with husbands, wives, children and financial commitments just like everyone else. Whilst some people will be against this project due to community and environmental impacts. The fact is that Glendell mining operations will actually be mining away from the village of Camberwell . Glendell have also gone to great lengths to implemant controls to manage any noise and dust that may occur. Relocation of the Ravensworth homestead has also been a major challenge , but Glendell operations have gone above and beyond to ensure that the relocation will be done in the best possible manner so the beauty and historical integrity of the buildings remain intact.
If the Glendell continued operations project is rejected then the hunter region will miss out on $446.7M , some of which will go back into local communities. This project will also provide the nsw government with approx $296.1M of revenue .
In closing if this project is not approved then everyone suffers from local communities in the hunter valley and the state government, what a price to pay.

I object to this project on the basis that the Greenhouse Gas and energy assessment (appendix 28).

While the country is already experiencing the worsening effects of climate change in the forms of catastrophic bushfires, it is reckless to then mine a product which will only add to the problem. To say that they are "beyond the operational control of the Proponent" is a total cop-out.

Bottom line is - this coal will be burnt - and will add to the already dire predictions for the future of the global climate.

If you are reading this and you have children - please listen to your heart and make the right decision for our kids future

As a resident of the Singleton area for the past 40 years i wish to support the project that Glendell is proposing.
Singleton and the surrounding Hunter townships rely on Coal Mining & Power generation. 72% of the Glendell workforce and there families live in the areas of Singleton,Muswellbrook, Cessnock and Maitland. A lot of the local sporting and community groups benefit from the donations that Glendell provides.
Between 2017&2019 Glendell spent $28.7 M on services from local suppliers which also carries over to the workers and the family's of those businesses.
The Continued Operations Project will benefit those communities and others until 2044. The current employees will have job security and can plan the different stages of there life including, buying a house, raising a family and giving our kids the best educational opportunities that they strive for in the future. All of this can be achieved with job security.
Glendells Continued Operations Project will provide all of the above over the years as well as the NSW Government having an estimated $296.1 M in royalty revenue over the life of the project, to be spent on Heath, Transport and Education among a lot of others.
The Continued Operations will have no significant extra effects on the local communities as it is moving away from the closest community.
I support the submission, not only as an employee but also for the benefits the local businesses,( large and small) and communities will receive in the future.

I believe that the hunter valley and surrounding areas would benefit greatly if this project was to be approved. Not only would it create permanent job opportunities for local families it would also contribute to many fundraising events, help local schools, sporting teams and buisnesses. Glencore do everything they can to be as environmentally friendly as possible and I believe that this Mine will be one of the best in Australia if approved
