This project should go ahead as Glendell will be able to employ more people, create work/jobs for local businesses along with providing net benefit in the lower hunter , NSW and royalty revenue stream flowing to the NSW Government.
Glendell is also very committed to ensuring the production creates minimal impact to the environment, with high standards in rehabilitation and water management.

I am aware that there is a proposed legislation that will prevent consideration of downstream effects in future proposals and in the interests of future generations I, incidentally, register my objection to that proposed change as well . Every decision we make from now on must be viewed with the future wellbeing of our planet in mind.

The Project will provide ongoing employment opportunities for the existing workforce and substantial revenue to local, regional and state economies.
The development is substantially a continuation of existing operations in the area which in turn has been the site of mining and power generation for some fifty years. The Project is a brownfield development that makes effective use of existing infrastructure to maximise economic use of the state's coal resource.
The Project has minimal impact on the surrounding community and would be moving away from the village of Camberwell and affect no other residents.
The project will be managed to same high environmental standards as the existing operation and the rehabilitation of which has been recognised as industry best practice.
I can confirm the proposal to relocate the Ravensworth Homestead to Broke has enthusiastic support in that village.
Finally I have seen first hand the high professional standards to which Glencore manage their operations.

Genuine calculation of Australia's emissions must now also add the carbon released from our massive bushfires - fires which are larger and more prolonged and destructive due to a suite of climate change effects on our environment. Decades of denial about the climate change science has delayed our government taking meaningful action to protect land, water and air quality, and most importantly from shutting down fossil fuel extraction and export . We are now reaping the rewards of this denial - and the international community is watching our government to see its response to these massive fires. We, and they, expect more than just money thrown at fire fighting and rebuilding - but REAL action to stop contributing to climate change as the only way to ensure a future safer for our global population. This means reducing carbon emissions to zero as soon as possible.
Now is not the time to be growing our fossil fuel industry. It is a false and frankly deceptive economic argument put to the Australian people that this is in our best interests. It it time to stop this economic and environmental madness and to invest heavily and rapidly in growing other energy industries. So I strongly urge that this extension of mining operation is rejected . No more mines. No mining extensions.

I refer to expert evidence summarised by the Australian Climate Council:
https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/unburnable-carbon-why-we-need-to-leave-fossil-fuels-in-the-ground-1/
And very well established scientific evidence for the relationship between global temperature increase and increased bush fire hazard:
https://www.srs.fs.fed.us/pubs/ja/2010/ja_2010_liu_001.pdf I emphasise this particular research article was published 10 years ago, meaning that the information has been available for planning and preparation but has been ignored to the detriment of our nation in this horrid fire season.
Finally, the world’s economists and business leaders are well aware of how fiscally foolish it would be to continue reliance on fossil fuels, as is attested to in the linked article in fines magazine: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffmcmahon/2019/07/03/4-reasons-renewables-will-continue-to-dominate-fossil-fuels/ “4 Economic Reasons Renewables Will Dominate Fossil Fuels”

The location of the mine is situated between old, established mines and I think operations will have minimum impact on the local community in terms of noise and dust as the mine is moving away from the closest township, Camberwell.
I have found Glencore to be very transparent when dealing with the local community and believe, as an operator, they will and have done what is reasonably possible to minimise the impact this will have on local environment.

It will bring economic growth to the area by keeping staff employed.
The area already has mining activity so it makes sense to keep it in the same area.

If the Glendell continued operations project is rejected then the hunter region will miss out on $446.7M , some of which will go back into local communities. This project will also provide the nsw government with approx $296.1M of revenue .
In closing if this project is not approved then everyone suffers from local communities in the hunter valley and the state government, what a price to pay.

While the country is already experiencing the worsening effects of climate change in the forms of catastrophic bushfires, it is reckless to then mine a product which will only add to the problem. To say that they are "beyond the operational control of the Proponent" is a total cop-out.
Bottom line is - this coal will be burnt - and will add to the already dire predictions for the future of the global climate.
If you are reading this and you have children - please listen to your heart and make the right decision for our kids future

Singleton and the surrounding Hunter townships rely on Coal Mining & Power generation. 72% of the Glendell workforce and there families live in the areas of Singleton,Muswellbrook, Cessnock and Maitland. A lot of the local sporting and community groups benefit from the donations that Glendell provides.
Between 2017&2019 Glendell spent $28.7 M on services from local suppliers which also carries over to the workers and the family's of those businesses.
The Continued Operations Project will benefit those communities and others until 2044. The current employees will have job security and can plan the different stages of there life including, buying a house, raising a family and giving our kids the best educational opportunities that they strive for in the future. All of this can be achieved with job security.
Glendells Continued Operations Project will provide all of the above over the years as well as the NSW Government having an estimated $296.1 M in royalty revenue over the life of the project, to be spent on Heath, Transport and Education among a lot of others.
The Continued Operations will have no significant extra effects on the local communities as it is moving away from the closest community.
I support the submission, not only as an employee but also for the benefits the local businesses,( large and small) and communities will receive in the future.
