G'day,
As a preface, I believe that while coal mining obviously has an (ill defined) use by date, there will continue to be a very significant role for thermal coal to play for decades to come and I believe the pale blue dot we all share will, on balance, be better off using our high quality coal than the generally much poorer quality reserves from Asia.
Having worked within many Glencore mines over the last three decades as an automation and control systems contractor, I have been directly and intimately involved in their mining operations, water and fuel management and environmental monitoring and controls, including Glendell for several years now .
From this long and deeply engaged perspective I know that Glencore maintain very high standards of environmental stewardship and community engagement, whilst operating efficiently and profitably.
Glendell has a very capable, forward looking and progressive management team who are constantly looking for and implementing cutting edge technology blended with common sense to ensure that their operation, although relatively small, runs efficiently with the minimal possible impact on the environment.
These guys have their stuff sorted - while we export coal please allow them to continue mining.

I write as a long term resident of this area and one who has had many family connections in both the coal mining industry as well as those who have worked in supporting businesses involved with the Coal Mining Industry. I find it disturbing that a very small minority of people involve themselves by objecting to these Project decisions having little regard for the thousands of people who are employed in these industries. The continuation of Glendell mining should not even be a questionable decision. Over the years of its operation Glendell has proven to be a great community supporter, not only are they contributing to these surrounding towns, they are keeping these families in employment. The surrounding towns will die a slow death if thousands of men and women are dismissed or without employment.

Over and over we are witnessing “employees” being held to ransom by the few who object and leave the Mines concerned unable to plan too far ahead. The “coal mining” industry has been operating here in the Hunter Valley for many decades without any real proven impact on the surrounding areas. The powers that be have very stringent environmental guidelines in place and Monitored constantly. I believe that both parties ie for/against can continue to live and work side by side.

In this day and age where we have many residents unable to find employment it appears to me to be a very callous act should the continuation be denied.

I thank you for the opportunity to submit my thoughts and only hope that common sense does prevail in this decision.

As a former long time employee within the Coal Mining Industry and as a long term resident of the Hunter Valley, i write in support of the Continuation of the Glendell Operations. Glendell has a proven track record of being a good Corporate citizen. Over the years of their operation, Glendell have supported many community projects as well as continuing to employ hundreds of men and women. It is disturbing that each time these Companies have plans to expand etc they are put through a period of uncertainty. Surely if a Company has a good track and safety record they can be assessed on this and this alone.
For many years the agricultural businesses and Mining operations have worked successfully side by side. The strict environmental guidelines already set in place and monitored constantly should prove to those objecting to the continuation of these Operations that they have no valid reason to object.

This project if approved will not only give Glendell and the current employees stability and the opportunity to plan their future but it will also benefit all NSW residents due to the taxes collected from Glencore and paid to the NSW Government.

Thank you

Mining is important to my family, my community and the State. I fully support the Glendell continued operations project and believe it needs approval ASAP so the workers and their families can avoid the stresses of not having their jobs and livelihood threatened. There are 40,000 people working in mining in NSW including 23,000 coal miners who rely on mining for their livelihood.
We urgently need projects like this to be approved to secure jobs and investment for local rural and regional communities.
There are more than 7,000 local businesses across NSW that are supported by mining.

I am currently employed as part of the management team of Glendell Mine. The mine operates within strict environmental and community guidelines in a very responsible manner, employing a large number of direct employees and contractors. This responsible contribution to the local community will cease at the end of the current mine life in early 2023, bringing an end to the revenue streams which add greatly to the local community. It is with great confidence that I can say that the GCOP operation will continue to maintain the high standards of operation and community responsibility, established throughout the life of the Glendell operation. I am wholeheartedy in favour of the proposed continuation.

The ongoing benefits that will be delivered to the local area by this project far outweigh any negatives from the project. It makes much more sense to continue this project as a development of an existing mine rather than approve a greenfield mining project elsewhere.

As stated I am in support of the Glendell Continued Operations Project (GCO) and being very impressed with their current undertakings and contributions to the local economy, workforce and environment I have absolutely no doubt that the submissions made on this major project will be performed to the highest degree, if not better. Glendell provides jobs for hundreds of people living in the valley and the monetary support that they provide for many local clubs, groups, charities etc does not go unnoticed. The undertaking of the relocation of Ravensworth Homestead is to be commended and shows that they are a compassionate company and very aware of the surroundings and the beginnings of settlement in this area. To return the earth to its original state after mining is a huge undertaking and I think Glendell has shown that it is more than capable of rehabilitation. Mining projects like this provide millions upon millions of dollars to the government which in turn allows the government to direct these funds to wherever/whatever is required. Imagine if this flow stopped...... Where would these funds come from???
There wouldn't be many (or any) objections to this mine extension if people were properly educated in the uses of coal and why coal is such an important fossil fuel.

I am in support of the Glendell Continued Operations Project.
Glendell Mines provides a huge economic boost to the Hunter Region with money being spent in the local area using local suppliers and with employees living in the Hunter Region. Glendell Mines needs to continue as they provide a huge employment opportunities for the area, putting millions of dollars back into the local community. They also continue to follow environmental practices by rehabilitating the areas they have an impact on. If the mine was to close, it would be devastating for the community.

I wish to support the Glendell continued operations. I have worked in the mining industry for 15 years, I pay minimum $45k in payroll tax plus gst in every purchase that I buy. The government is broke. If the government knock back projects like Glendell how the hell are we as a nation ever going to get out of debt. It will create jobs for the next 20 years, I have no other skill or trade to fall back on so I will be on government benifts if this project doesn’t get the green light, I’m 40 and I want to work.

The Glendell Continued Operations proposal has endless benefits for NSW as a whole and more importantly the local communities of Muswellbrook,Scone,Maitland,Cessnock and surrounds.
These benefits include:
*Boosting state coffers through increased extraction up to 10 Million Tonne Per Year
*Securing Local Jobs well into the future - This intern flows down to local businesses increasing there revenues
*Glencore continuing to fund local projects, ie.school and junior sporting organisations
*Keeping the Hunter Valley a strong regional hub for power generation and as a benchmark for others to envy

The Glendell Continued Operations Project has significant benefits to the region - Its approval would be a major boost for the area and much welcomed by all involved

Australia presently represents .3% of the world's population.
Australia contributes 1.3% of the world's carbon emissions.
Australia is therefore contributing disproportionately to global warming which is now at crisis level. The reason this is happening is because we continue to mine and export fossil fuels without regard to the global peril we are facing. The coal mining industry needs to be scaled down - not up. Any extension or increase in the amount of coal being mined is directly opposed to our moral obligations and to internationally accepted environmental best practice. If this application is granted it will contribute to the escalation of already unacceptably high carbon emissions. It is not in the interests of the people of NSW that this application be granted and it should be rejected.

I believe that this project will not only benefit the Hunter Valley Region but also the whole of the Australia Economy. This project will provide at least 300 secure jobs and countless employment opportunities for many contractors.
The finances that will be injected into the towns of Singleton, Muswellbrook and the surrounds will help all of those locally to be able to be able to live off their own business and provide for their families.
I believe job security is very hard to find these days so with at least 300 more jobs that will be provided from this project is incredible.
I fully support the Glendell Continued Operations Project.

As a contractor on Glendell Mine Site, I have had a great learning experience with the team at Glendell. We have helped develop a fuel management system that in turn will turn into a fleet management system. Without the support of Glendell this will not be possible. The testing and trialing of new technologies at Glendell mine would mean so much to the mining community and environmental planning as a whole once we have completed the roll out of a total energy management solution to Glendell. Glendell have always taken the engineered solutions approach to operating and have engaged multiple bodies to determine ways they can be more efficient and be innovative in the field. And as such I am a big supporter of the continuation of the Glendell project. To not only continue in growth for better systems for the mining industry but to also support Glendell in the pursuit to better optimize fleets and cost of operations by implementing saving strategies backed up by field data and analysis.
