Angus Place Extension Project.

I strongly object to the Springvale Mine Extension Project. It will destroy the environment around the Wolgan Valley which is so beautiful and now a world famours site. After mining, the surface sandstone cracks and that then permanently drains the swamps.

The project will pollute Sydney's drinking water supply and undermine more than 5,000 hectares of forest and pagoda rock formations in the Newnes State Forest, north of Lithgow.

If this is done, it will be regretted for future generations. Destroying nature for money is not a viable reason.

Angus Place Colliery is planning on dramatically increasing their holdings.

They are going to take out the area between Wolgan and Carne Creek (LW 1001 - 1019).
This is the colliery on your right hand side on Wolgan Road, a few km's before The Gap and into our valley.

There are a number of concerns:

1 In the past 2 months Wolgan River has dried up as well as the swamps above Wolgan Falls which feed Wolgan River. Some of that might be due to recent lack of rain, but I assume it is not just the dry weather but new cracks in the catchment area from expanding mining operations from Angus Place colliery
2 Also, there are the construction works (new bore holes, power lines, pipelines and access roads) being undertaken at the moment in the area of Sunny Ridge Road (off Blackfellows Hand Road). This activity resulted from recent approvals for long wall mining expansions into the Carne Creek catchment area - - - this is our water supply and the lifeline of the Wolgan further down.
3 Carne Creek is the wonderful creek that runs from the World Heritage Area through our property from South to North, connecting with Wolgan River that runs West to East. Carne Creek has been described by researchers from the University of Western Sydney as:'one of the cleanest and pristine water sources in Australia'. It is a wonderful resource to have and we have seen a dramatic return of wildlife in the past 4 years that rely on Carne Creek: platypus, lace molitors, lizards, various fish and yabbies' etc etc.
4 Carne Creek is also our only source of water when we do not have enough rain to fill our tanks - as we have seen the past 5 months.


Also attached are 2 pictures that I have been able to lay my hands on to show the scale of their plans:

The first picture is at around GR 379 053. The old pine plantation has been totally cleared and there is a flat area without any trees surrounded on most sides by an earth wall about 2m high. The area is probably 200m x 200m; there is also a spot with some concrete foundations for a structure being built.
The second picture is detail of a much more extensive area nearby, totally cleared of all living matter, about 500m x 500m, with huge drilling rigs, buildings etc on it, at around GR 375 055. This area is above the Wolgan River which is about 500m to the W.
There are also new pipelines being put in the ground along the road.

Jaymes, I am raising serious concerns about these operations and I oppose the plans - mining in the Carne Creek catchment area is highly contentious and in my view greedy. It WILL affect the 100% pure water supply to Carne Creek and rob this world class resort from a secure and clean water source as well deplete a valuable conservation resource.

May I ask you to raise this with the Premier as well as the Department of Planning and Mining/Resources minister. The restrictions and conditions that will be applied for this will be too loose and impossible to enforce - it needs to be stopped.

i fully support the development proposal. Angus Place employs over 270 people and it is a very safe and productive mine.
It contributes greatly to the local economy, by local spending as well as being a major sponsor to may local events.
It is imperative that this continues to be an excellent employer and to maintain its valuable input into the community.
All of the coal produced, is supplied to the local power station, which in turn, assists to keep local power bills down to a minimum.
Due to its excellent safety record, it is also an employer of choice.
If the extension did not go ahead, a lot of eployees would have to leave the area and the local economy would be hit hard

This project is very positive for the ltihgow region. It will ensure that jobs are availiable for future genterations, and allow familys to stay in the lithgow region.
This project will also ensure a local coal supply for the power stations in the area, so the knock on effects will be hugely benefical to ligthgow and the greater lithgow region.
it states that mine will employ 300 people, however lithgow will see fair more jobs created in supporting the mine operations.
Centennial also heavily support the local region by sponsoring various local communitee groups, without there support a large number of these organisation wouldn't be able to operate.

As a whole this projects approval have fair greater reaching effects on the local communitte then the purely direct effect of employment.y

I am all for the approval of this project. My partner works in the coal industry and this porject will ensure the we will be able to stay in the area.

Centennial the company support alot of local sporting groups and this really helps the clubs being able to run the competitions.

I support the Angus Place Mine Extension Project as it will ensure:
-> Continued employment of local personnel
-> Coal resources for Mt Piper Power Station
-> Other local business survival/growth
If the Extension does not go ahead I would more than likely have to leave the area to find work along with hundreds of other local residents that might not even be directly employed through the mine.

Finally a company investing in the local area there have been too many closures of industry in the local area causing families to leave the area which in turn leads to a down turn and business suffers. Centennial Coal have always been actively involved with community events and a responsible corporate citizen. It would be catstrophic to the Lithgow area to have another 300 persons out of work.

Angus place has a big part in supplying coal to the electricity generation in the local area. Supports a work force of up to 300 not including local businesses and services with most employees living in the local area. They are involved in local sporting activities. The loss of this mine would affect the area and cause a lot of people to have to relocate out of the area.

I support the Angus Place Mine Extension Project for many reasons.
Angus Place Colliery has a long history in the Lithgow region (over 35 years) and employs 300 people directly and countless others indirectly.
Angus Place has had minimum impact to the local environment and community and is always aware of it's responsibility in this regard.
Angus Place plays a major part in the supply of coal for local electricity generation.
Angus Place continually supports local sporting, community and charity organisations.
I believe the non approval of this project would have devastating effects, to not only the many employees of the mine, but also to the local community in general.

Angus Place supports up to 300 employees and plays a big part in the supply of coal for local electricity generation it also has private haulage roads that keep a lot of trucks of our local roads. It also supports local community and sporting groups. The employees of Angus Place also support many charities in the area. Angus Place has a good track record of mining in the local area with minimal impact to people that live here and the local environment.

I would like to support the extension of Angus Place. At the moment Angus Place employs over 300 men and women from the local community and I would hate to see those people lose their employment if this application is rejected. The local community would also suffer as these people in turn put money back in to the local economy by supporting local business as well as the numerous local engineering workshops and other local businesses that benefit from dealings with Angus Place.
As a coach of a local junior rugby league side I would hate to lose centennial from our local area as their sponsorship assists in keeping not only our club going but also many others throughout the community. Centennial coal has also assisted with the local public school and supplied some new sets of sporting outfits and equipment.
In closing if this proposal is rejected it would nearly cripple the local community of Lithgow and the surrounding areas

I believe this project will have minimal impact to the local environment as there are restrictions in place to ensure this.

As a local resident I appreciate the sponsorship that Angus Place provide to the various community events such as Iron Fest ,Celebrate Lithgow, Portland Pool and Lithgow District Net Ball Association that my children reap the benefits from.

This project will significantly harm the pristine swamps of the Newnes Plateau and risks polluting the water supply of Sydney. This beautiful, untouched area of nature is a jewel in the crown of NSW, a magnet for tourists and visitors of all persuasions and nationalities, from the Newnes Hotel through to the Emirates Resort. What better way to destroy NSW's reputation to national and international tourists than to destroy a prestige destination spot now and for future generations?

This need s to continue for the economic benefits to the Lithgow region. Up to 300 local jobs will be lost if it closes.

Angus Place Colliery has provided me with a safe and beneficial workplace for over thirty years. My family has lived in the local area for over 180 years and our association with the local coal industry extends back over 100 years.
Centennial Angus Place and its employees provide an invaluable contribution to the local area. Many other employees in the local area are dependent on the money generated by mining coal at Angus Place, mainly due to the spending of wages locally.
In addition to this however is the input to the local area through donations to charitable organizations and sponsorships both from the company and from the workforce.
I believe that we mine coal at Angus Place in a safe and efficient manner while respecting the environment and keeping this area as a place where my family are happy and proud to reside.
I cannot stress how important the granting of this proposal is to my familyand I as well as to the local area.

I feel this would dramatically effect the local community with these families trying to find other employment, possibly leaving town in doing so.
