Electricity generating works or solar energy systems

Transport and Infrastructure SEPP (2021)  amendments

The NSW Government has made it easier to install solar energy battery systems in your home.

Solar power batteries are popular with households that want to store excess energy. Currently, residents must apply to their local council for approval.

Changes to the Transport and Infrastructure SEPP make household scale solar battery systems exempt development. This means you will not need development consent.

Changes also provide:

  • a planning pathway for household scale solar battery systems
  • a stronger definition of ‘solar energy system’
  • amend time restrictions for wind monitoring towers associated with wind farms.

The Explanation of Intended Effect outlining the proposed changes was on exhibition from 16 August to 13 September, 2021.
