Using the Government Property Index

How do I optimise my experience when I used the Government Property Index?

To view the Government Property Index in the best possible way, it is recommended to use Google Chrome version 66.0 or higher.

Other browsers that support the Government Property Index are:

  • Safari
  • Mozilla firefox
  • Microsoft Edge 44.0
  • Internet Explorer 11 (Please note, versions lower than IE11 are not supported with the NSW Planning Portal. Microsoft are currently rolling out updates to Windows 7 and 10 users to upgrade their browsers throughout 2019).

You can now view the Planning Portal on the following compatible mobile devices:

  • Google Android OS devices
  • Apple OS devices

Windows OS devices (Microsoft Edge)

How do I adjust the screen for accessibility?

Click the ‘High Contrast’ button at the top of the page to the left of the search bar.

How to I see lot borders more clearly within in the spatial viewer?

Under the layers panel on the left hand side of the screen, enable ‘Lot(Cadastre)’ found under the administration tab.

How can I select multiple zones when doing a GPI search?

On windows: hold down the ‘control’ key when selecting multiple zones.

On MacOS: Hold down the ‘Command’ button when selecting multiple zones.

I’m not sure what lot information is, how can I find it?

Lot information can be found in two ways:

  1. GPI Search results: under the ‘lot/sect/plan’ column
  2. ePlanning Spatial Viewer: in the top left-hand part of the screen after performing a property search (under the address – ‘Lot/Section/Plan number’)...

Why doesn’t the sum of the lot areas exactly match the property area?

The areas may not be equal in cases where not all of the lots in a Property are NSW Government-owned (lot areas only show the Government owned portions).

How do I see NSW Government properties mapped in the Spatial Viewer?

To see a GPI search result on the Spatial Viewer click the on the right hand side. The ePlanning spatial viewer will launch in a separate tab with your property automatically selected.

To see the entirety of the GPI within the Spatial Viewer enable the ‘Government Property Index’ layer found inside the layer panel on the left hand side of the Spatial Viewer.

How do I find additional information about a property within my GPI search results?

You can click the on the right hand side of the search result to launch the ePlanning Spatial Viewer. All data (such as bushfire prone land, heritage, crown land, crown reserves, etc) related to that property will be displayed on the right hand side under ‘search results’.

Are Crown Land parcels able to be searched in the GPI search page?

Some Crown Land parcels are searchable (those with a Lot/Section/Plan). However, some Crown Land parcels have no parcel lot information and will only be viewable by enabling the Crown Lands layer within the ePlanning Spatial Viewer

How do I view Crown Land information within the spatial viewer?

Under the layers panel on the left-hand side of the screen, enable the relevant Crown Land layers (Crown Land, Crown Enclosure Permit, Crown Licences, Crown Leases, Crown Reserves) found under the Crown Land tab to view these on the map.

The Crown Land information affecting a particular lot or property can be seen in the search results (right-hand side of screen) after searching a lot or property.

How do I submit an enquiry for a peice of Crown Lands without an descriptive address or lot information (lot/section/plan)?

When completing the General Enquiry form, be as descriptive as possible by noting nearby landmarks / addresses in your enquiry and we will endeavour to answer your request. Ideally, take a screenshot of the parcel and upload the shot as an attachment to your enquiry. We may contact you for further information if we have trouble identifying the property in question.

How do I submit an enquiry on a property?

To submit an enquiry, select ‘Contact the GPI team’ found under ‘Development Assessment – Government Property Index’ within the main taskbar (top of screen).

Why do I need to provide my name / company? Is this data shared with any other party?

Your data is not shared and is solely used for internal reporting purposes.

My request type isn’t shown. Is there someone else I can contact?

The GPI Team will respond to all types of requests under a general property enquiry with the exception of property proposals and requests for legal ownership.

How long does it take to get a response for a general enquiry?

The GPI Team will aim to answer your enquiries within 15 business days.

I don’t have an email address. Can you respond via phone call?

At this time the GPI Team can only manage general enquiries via email.

Am I able to track the progress of my request?

The current General Enquiries function does not have a facility to track progress of enquiries online. Please email the GPI Team for an update.

Who can I contact to get help on using the GPI?

If you need help in using the Spatial Viewer element of the GPI, please refer to the training resources located in the Planning Portal how-to guides or the FAQs. If the question is not addressed there (or in the FAQs), then users can contact us via a web-form found here.

Can I print the Terms & Conditions of use for the GPI?

Yes. Click on 'To learn more about the Government Property Index and read the terms and conditions of use, please click here', then click 'print.'
