Amendment to Infrastructure SEPP - Interim corridor for the Sydney Metro West

State Environmental Planning Policy (Infrastructure) 2007 (the Infrastructure SEPP) assists the NSW Government, private infrastructure providers, local councils and the communities they support by simplifying the process for providing essential infrastructure.

The Infrastructure SEPP plays a key role in helping to deliver the NSW Government’s infrastructure works.

Amendment to the Infrastructure SEPP

In April 2020, the Department proposed an amendment to the Infrastructure SEPP to create a new short-term “protective” underground corridor related to the proposed alignment of the Sydney Metro West project.

The amendment was made and published on 2 October 2020.

The provisions in the SEPP identify an application area along the same alignment included in a State Significant Infrastructure application that was lodged with the Department for the Sydney Metro West railway between Greater Parramatta and Sydney CBD (concept and stage 1 construction phases only).

The corridor protection will:

  • require consent authorities to notify Sydney Metro of certain development applications within the interim corridor
  • require Sydney Metro to provide concurrence on notified development applications before they can be determined by a consent authority.

The amendment will ensure the successful and efficient delivery of this State Significant Infrastructure project.

A full overview of the proposed Infrastructure SEPP amendment is outlined in the Explanation of Intended Effect
