Free Tree Giveaway

Greater Sydney households are eligible for a free tree.

Update: We’ve received an overwhelming response to applications for free trees and there is currently no more stock available. More trees are expected to be added to the giveaway in early 2022.

2021 free tree giveaway

We have partnered with Bunnings Warehouse to provide a range of tree species for pick up at over 40 Greater Sydney Bunnings stores.

Over the course of the giveaway residents will be able to order privacy, shade, flowering and fruit trees.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if you answer yes to all of the following:

  • you have an address in one of the 33 local government areas (LGAs) in Greater Sydney
  • you have not already applied for a free tree(s) in 2021.

What tree species are available?

In November, we gave away the following trees:

  • Leptospermum Pink Cascade 200mm
  • Leptospermum Copper Glow 200mm
  • Callistemon Kings Park Special 200mm
  • Callistemon Hannah Ray 200mm            
  • Backhousia Myrtifolia 200mm
  • Lemon 10L Eureka
  • Orange 10L Washington Navel
  • Orange 10L Valencia 
  • Mandarin 10L Imperial
  • Lime 10L Tahitian

How do I ‘Click and Collect’ a free tree(s)?

  1. Create a Planning Portal Account or log in with your MyServiceNSW details.
  2. Once in the Planning Portal you may be taken to a page that says, “Nothing but space” or a see a blank screen. Click on the blue box with three lines in the top left-hand corner of your screen or on the + (plus sign).
  3. Click on ‘Free Tree Application’.
  4. Complete the form including which tree(s) you wish to claim.  Please note you must select your tree from the drop-down list. Address field: we suggest that you start by typing your street name. If you don’t select your address from the drop-down box, ‘Your property is not eligible for a Free Tree’ will appear. If you’ve selected your address from the dropdown box, but still see this error, please email [email protected]
  5. Click ‘Submit’. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
  6. Wait for Bunnings to let you know your tree(s) are ready to be collected in store (within 7 working days).

What store locations can I collect my order from?

Trees can be collected from your local Bunnings store. After you’ve submitted your application, Bunnings will let you know when your trees are ready to be picked up. Once Bunnings have been in contact you will have 7 days to pick up your free trees.

What happens if I miss out on free trees?

You can register your interest on this webpage via a webform. People who register will be notified on the day the giveaway reopens.

How are COVID-19 restrictions impacting my free tree(s)?

In participating in the free tree giveaway, you agree to adhere to NSW Health guidelines when collecting your tree(s). Your safety and the safety of others is extremely important to us.
